We must grasp happiness with both hands, hold tight, and armor ourselves with it against the world. This book certainly swept me off my feet. To be honest, I didn’t put it on my TBR because I’m a fan of Grace Kelly nor because I’m a huge fan of historical fiction. Quite frankly, I knew nothing about Grace Kelly. To be perfectly honest, I just wanted to read a book that’s set in Monaco. So obviously, my stakes weren’t too high when I started reading it. But all my doubts were swept away after I finished the first chapter. I was immediately drawn into the story. The writing is pure gold. I was so immersed in it, I thought I was able to smell Grasse’s flower fields. The surroundings are described in great detail and it’s easy to vividly imagine the setting of Sophie’s and James’ love story. It’d be the perfect movie! Sophie is a remarkable woman and even though I needed some time to warm up to James, he was able to charm not only the young parfumier, but also me. What an enchanting book that features a charming romance, set in a dazzling and marvelous location in the French Riviera. I completely devoured this book. But who was to say that love at first sight wasn’t real, or that a romance built on passion and words couldn’t bloom into something lasting. Who was to say what constituted real love at all?
