This story is one of the most amazing love stories I've ever read! Beautifully written and thought provoking. I asked myself a million times, how I would react if I would have to make the same decisions the characters of this book have to make and I still have no answer. Assisted suicide is still a topic that needs clarification and understanding for the affected human beings. I am glad that Jojo Moyes made a step into the right direction with her story. Maybe this helps people to think about the topic a bit more.
This book was amazing. I finished it in two days even though I barely had time to read because I could not put it down. So glad I bought it.
What an emotional and thought-provoking book! It's not easy to read when you've lost someone to suicide yourself, but it points out the range of emotions and thoughts those people and the ones who live with someone who wants to die have to deal with. I read some of the 1-star-reviews. Most of the people who wrote them believe that this book has only one message: To show how unworthy life is when you are quadriplegic or in a wheelchair in general. Well, I don't think this is the message behind this book at all. To me, it rather says that everyone has the right to a self-determined life and self-determined actions, which includes the right to die when and how a human being wants. Of course that doesn't mean that every quadriplegic wants to die! I know that there are lots of quadriplegic people in the world who love their life. But there are also some who don't (and this does not only apply to quadriplegics, btw...) and seriously. Who are we that we claim the right to decide whether the life of a human being is worth living or not? Maybe this is just my opinion, because it helps me to understand the suicide of a beloved person (who wasn't even quadriplegic) and to finally put this trauma behind. But besides that, I'm glad that assisted dying/suicide and organizations like Dignitas exist to help people die with dignity.
A really, really beautiful book. I felt quite biased at the end though, I still don't know if I like Will's decision or not.
Firstly, I want to warn you that the cover doesn’t do the book justice. Once you realize where the story is going and how heartbreaking it is you’re already too emotionally invested to stop reading! This book is NOT just a simple lovestory. (Just wanted to warn everybody, because otherwise you’ll blame me for the pain this book will give you) I honestly loved this book! The storyline was heartbreakingly beautiful (but also SAD, really SAD) and the character development was amazing! I especially loved how Will changed Loo from an insecure mid-twenty girl with no ambitions to a fully grown-up woman that knows what she wants to do with her life. Go read this book! You’re got sucked into the story because it was so damn realistic. It made me question my choices in life and made me think about whether I’d be able to handle the situation in which Loo or Will happen to be. Favorite quote: “You only get one life. It actually is your duty to live it as fully as possible”
This book broke me. I read this book in nearly one sitting. It was not fun to read. Don´t get me wrong. It was a good read. But it was not fun it was sad. From the beginning to the end it kinda made me sad. I loved Lou and Will. Loved how they fell in love. But I absolutely hated the Ending. Lou has a super ordinary live and Will wants to change this. He was a super adventurous guy before he got stuck in his wheelchair. Although Lou is employed by his Mother to make him decide not to commit suicide and learn that his life is worth living, he turns it around and makes Lou realise there is so much more to life for. It feels like this is his last mission before he decides to go trough with the assisted suicide in Switzerland. The end left a bad taste in my mouth. Because it felt like the message is altough he enjoyed every minute with Lou and learned that a life like that could be good, it is not worth trying. It is not worth to life and so he should end it. He did, it was super sad, everyone was sad. But Lou at the end did what he wished he could do and lived an adventurous life. She is crying reading his last letter, but it felt so weird. As if this was the only way for Will or other people who have the same illness. The rest of the book was really enjoyable. Altough sad, because Lou gets abused by everyone around her. Her boyfriend only thinks about himself and his goals. Mocks her together with her Dad and Mum. I felt so bad for her. And so good when she finally confessed to Will and got away from Patrick. This made the end even more sad for me.
Okay... wow ich bin fertig mit den Nerven Muss das erst mal verdauen
Heartbreaking! I loved it!
I cried the whole last 100 pages... amazing
