I absolutely loved this book. It talks about so many important themes, which are more topical than ever. Seeing these topics dealt with in a YA novel is so so important, and I am so glad I finally was able to read this book! What I loved most is the combination of the portrayal of an Indian Muslim girl growing up in America, and also the Islamophobia and the Racism she has to deal with, and which are more prominent than ever IRL. The book's depiction of culture and relationships was stunning, and the book definitely left me wanting more. I saw a few reviews on this book saying that they felt like the premise of the book itself, and also how the book was marketed, took up too little time in the plot itself, and that it was more of a romance novel. I disagree, because it was exactly this combination of Maya, trying to live the normal life of a teenager, and the hate and prejudice which she had to deal with in the aftermath of the terrorist attack, that made this book so memorable for me. I can't wait to read more from this author!
