Beschreibung

When children start to go missing in the local woods, a teen girl must face her fears and a past she can't remember to rescue them in this atmospheric YA novel, Lost in the Never Woods from the author of Cemetery Boys.

It’s been five years since Wendy and her two brothers went missing in the woods, but when the town’s children start to disappear, the questions surrounding her brothers’ mysterious circumstances are brought back into the light. Attempting to flee her past, Wendy almost runs over an unconscious boy lying in the middle of the road...

Peter, a boy she thought lived only in her stories, asks for Wendy’s help to rescue the missing kids. But, in order to find them, Wendy must confront what’s waiting for her in the woods.

- Actual rating: 3 stars - The thing I enjoyed the most about this book was probably the writing style because the way the author describes things is really picturesque. I was listening to the audiobook with this one and tbh if it wasn’t for that and how I loved the narrator changing voices to differentiate between each character so beautifully I would probably have DNFed it at some point. Over all, I think a lot of the time the story was just dialogue between Peter and Wendy and not much was actually happening throughout the book until maybe the last three chapters. And my next point might not be necessarily a bad thing, but I found certain distinct phrases which resulted from the author’s writing style to appear quite often in the book. Especially with Peter, at some point I was a bit annoyed by his repetitive wordings. However, I enjoyed the plot - when something was actually happening and I wasn’t a bit confused how things suddenly came to be how they are - as well as the relationship between Wendy and her parents.

dnf @ 16% something about me and peter pan just doesnt click

I really wish I could have liked this book more, but the beginning was very slow and very repetitive and I almost wanted to quit reading this book altogether. However, the last third of the book was amazing and almost made up for the slow start and I am glad I continued reading.

"Lost in the Never Woods" is a twist on the classic Peter Pan Story. 5 years after her own time in Neverland, a trip her brothers never came back from and she doesn't remember anything from, Wendy runs into Peter Pan, who ask her to help. His shadow got away from him and has been kidnapping kids, all while Peter has started to age. This was a very cute story. I enjoyed it a lot, even if at times the pacing was too slow for my taste. It has a few twists that are quite fun, but overall the plot is on the simpler side, as it is aimed at younger readers. I recommend it, especially if you like fairy tale retellings and adaptions.
