Lord of Shadows. Celebration Edition: The stunning new edition of the international bestseller (The Dark Artifices, Band 2)

I can't breath. I really need the third book right away. I could not put it down. It has tension, romance, fighting and all sorts of different characters. Love the diversity here. Also loved to read more of Magnus and Alec, they fit really well into the story.

Oh wow! Ich kann nicht glauben, dass ein zweiter Band mich mal so in den Bann genommen hat. Zu erfahren wie es rund um die Blackthrons und Carstairs weiter geht und nun auch Kit. By the way.. kit und Ty..??? Es war interessant zu sehen, wie sich die Beziehungen weiter entwickeln und wie das Buch endete.. damit hatte ich nicht gerechnet. Es kann alles verändern.

OMG...dieses Buch lässt mich völlig leer und zerstört zurück...Die mehreren Handlungsstränge sind sehr spannend und gut mit einander verbunden.ich muss unbedingt wissen wie es weiter geht.

Meine Meinung: Band 1 konnte mich ja schon nicht so ganz überzeugen, aber ich wollte doch unbedingt weiterlesen. Der Einstieg in das Buch fiel mir dieses mal viel leichter. Ich fand schnell in meinen Lesefluss. Der Schreibstil der Autorin ist wie gewohnt, flüssig und gut. Jedoch muss ich von der Story einfach sagen, es fühlt sich stellenweise für mich so an wie eine 0815 Wiederholung von Jace & Clary. Ich konnte dieses Gefühl einfach nicht abschütteln. Trotzdem hat die Autorin aber ihren eigenen Charme beim erzählen, was es mir doch sehr leicht gemacht hat das Buch zu lesen. Die Geschichte, wie schon erwähnt, fühlte sich stellenweise so an als würd ich noch mal die reihe "City of Bones" lesen, nur das es hier nicht Jace & Clary ist sondern Emma und Julian. Ich liebe die Welt die die Autorin für uns erschaffen hat, wirklich, heiss und innig. Jedoch kam mir hier die Story sehr eingefahren vor - es drehte sich alles ausschließlich um "Komplizierte Liebe". Ein ewiges Hin und Her der Protagonisten führte nicht wirklich dazu das ich mich unterhalten fühlte. Auch fehlte mir hier schlicht die Action. Gegen Ende hin nahm diese zwar zu, aber es reichte für mich halt doch nicht wirklich ganz... Was mir hier auch noch aufgefallen ist, sind doch die relativ oft vorkommenden Logik Lücken. Zumindest für mich. Auch wusste ich Zeitweise gar nicht ob das Szenario im JETZT spielt, oder Vorgestern, oder vor einem Jahr... oder oder... das hat mich doch alles verwirrt. Jedoch muss ich einfach sagen, es fühlte sich doch schön an. Zumindest stellenweise. Viele beschreiben es als "nach Hause kommen" und ich muss dem wirklich zustimmen. Auch wenn es seine auf und abs hat. Nicht ganz so Actionreich ist. Wenn man sich aber im klaren ist, dass es hier (wieder) um eine, ja doch komplizierte, Liebesgeschichte handelt, der wird wohl nicht enttäuscht werden. Eine schöne, komplizierte, hin&her Liebesstory in der Welt der Schattenjäger. Ich kann mir vorstellen das Band 3 alles raushauen wird, jedoch war dies dann doch einfach nur ein "Brücken Buch" das uns die Wartezeit auf Band 3 verkürzen sollte. Für alle Fans sicherlich ein muss. Ob ich mir Band 3 holen werde? Mal sehen.... :) Das Cover gefällt mir wirklich gut, und macht sich auch gut im Regal. Ich find es nur etwas düster. Auf was ich erst viel viel später gekommen bin. Dreht man das Buch leicht, sieht man die Skyline von London *.* Fazit: Für mich ein guter zweiter Band. Aber leider konnte ich auch bei diesem band nicht so ganz hineinfinden. Ich liebe die Welt rund um die Schattenjäger, aber leider ist mir hier einfach zu wenig Action, zu viel liebe (-sprobleme) und eigentlich auch viel zu wenig Dämonen. Daher gibts von mir 3 von 5 Masken

Nicht ganz so stark wie Band 1. Die Charaktere sind wirklich der Hammer und als dann auch noch Magnus und Alec aus Chroniken der Unterwelt dazugekommen sind, war ich restlos begeistert. Da ich nicht viel Zeit hatte zum Lesen, hat sich alles einfach ziemlich gezogen. Das wird nun bei Band 3 hoffentlich wieder besser. ABER DIESER SCHLUSS!!!!!! Cassandra Clare weiß wie man Herzen bricht.. Ich habe zwar mit so was in der Art gerechnet aber das war.........Argggg. habe deswegen auch etwas Angst Band 3 zu lesen bzw. wie es jetzt weitergehen soll.

There are not many non-spoilery things I can say about this book, since I want to discuss important plot points and character developments in this review, but I can say that I think that this is Cassie’s best work until now. It was the most sophisticated and best written book of hers, in my opinion. The plot was extremely interesting, and so eventful. Usually with Cassie Clare books there is this part in the middle where not a lot happens, and you could basically just skip it. However, this book is completely different, since every piece of information that is given is important to the story. Another thing I loved so much was that the characters in this book acted so mature. Miscommunication is one of my biggest pet peeves in books, and it was really refreshing to see how well things can work out when people just TALK to each other. Emma and Mark are honest to each other, Emma and Julian are, Christina and Mark are; it’s just great. I loved it. From here on out the review will contain SPOILERS, so if you haven’t read the book yet, please do not read any further! Also: I apologize in advance for how messy this review is going to be. :) So let’s talk about the characters and their relationship to each other first: Kit and Ty are everything in this book. We really get to see their friendship develop, and their love for each other grow and grow. It has already been announced by Cassie that these two are going to be the main protagonists of her The Wicked Powers series, and I am so ready for it. Kit discovers that he doesn’t really want to leave the Blackthorns, and they are where he belongs. The scene where the Fairie riders ask who he is, and he says “Christopher Herondale” really shows how much he himself has grown as a character. However, when Ty asks Kit if he wants to be the Watson to his Sherlock, I just sobbed. They have to be together forever; I will not accept anything less. At the end, when Livy dies and we see Ty fall unconscious because of this pain and loss, I just imagine how Kit and Ty are going to grow together even more now that they need each other the most! I am SO READY for more Kit and Ty. Another couple that I never thought I’d ship, but I do, is Gwyn and Diana. When Diana told Gwyn her story, and how she struggles with her identity, and he just says: “Can I hold you?” my heart MELTED. I never saw Gwyn as an actual character, he was always just like this big, untouchable guy, but he is just a huge teddy bear and I love him and anyone who hurts him or Diana can fight me. Then we have the whole Christina/Kieran/Mark thing going on that I really don’t know what to think of. Kieran gets tortured in Fairie and loses his memories, only so that the Unseelie King can later give it back to him again. Tension arises between Mark and Kieran, but I wat them to be together, because they BELONG TOGETHER. I like the dynamic these three characters have with each other, but honestly, I don’t see Christina with either of them. Since Diego might be back in the game now she can have him for what I care. And, of course, we have Emma and Julian. As I said before, I really appreciated it that they were honest with each other in this book, and just stopped playing. I appreciated that Emma and Mark didn’t fall in love (because they don’t fit together, like, AT ALL?) and that they agreed to just be friends very early on in the book. I feared that there was love triangle happening between Emma, Mark and Julian, and I would ahve hated that. Luckily, this didn't happen! Emma and Julian have a long way to go now, since their only hope Robert was killed off to (HOW DARE SHE kill off characters from other books? How? Why?). But in this book I feel like we saw Julian’s real self, and what he would sacrifice for his family and Emma. (Breaking all Parabatai bonds ever? Yeah sure, why not? Emma you in? NO JULIAN STOP) Moving on with the plot: Apparently Jace and Clary (who will die soon? What?) go into Fairie to look for a weapon Sebastian left there. My mind IMMEDIATELY went back to the Seelie Queen and her and Sebastian's child, but that wasn’t explained any further, so I kind of forgot about it. THEN Dru gets teleported into Fairie and she meets a thirteen year old boy with WHITE-BLONG HAIR AND GREEN EYES???? SEBASTIAN IS THAT YOU??? If we don’t get to see more of that boy in the next book I am going to FLIP. So our group goes into Fairie to rescue Kieran, and apparently their Shadowhunter powers do not work there. The Unseelie King is a fascinating character, and his sons too, so I really hope we will visit him again in the next few books! However, the Seelie Queen appears again, and nobody is surprised that she is here? I mean, wasn’t she like, gone after the war? Where does she come from suddenly, and why does nobody question it? Anyway, of course she knows something they all want to know and she seduces them and they swear that they will get her the book (which was the stupidest thing they could’ve done, honestly. Julian, get your sht together, have you not learned anything.) Meanwhile, the Blackthorn children go to the London institute and whilst Kit, Ty and Livy are at the Shadow market a GREEN-SKINNED warlock helps them with their quest. Am I the only one who immediately though about Ragnor? Could he still be alive? Since Malcolm was raised from the dead as well, why can’t we do this with other warlocks as well? Speaking of warlocks: Their powers are slowly decreasing, and they tire more easily, which worries me so much. In the last chapter all I thought about was “Omg, please don’t let Magnus die, omg.” But she wouldn’t, would she? In the London institute there were so many hidden gems to find for people who have also read the TID series: the books with the J.H. or W.H. initials in the, or Jessamine protecting the institute. I loved Cassie for including these details. Emma and Julian meanwhile go to Malcom’s house near London and meet Annabelle there. She tricks them, and they burn down a church with their Parabatai bond, (because apparently that's what they can do now) which has grown stronger since they are both in love. They sleep with each other, and MAGNUS “how often do I have to witness this” BANE walks in on them. I loved that Cassie followed through with this little detail, too. There is this one scene where Emma and Julian joke about family motos, and it was the best thing ever. “If you don’t know your last name, it’s probably Herondale.” Ohh, how true indeed. Alec, Magnus and their two children Rafe and Max are in the London institute with the Blackthorns, and I just loved seeing their story intertwine with the TDA story. Alec’s discussion with Zara in the last chapter was pure gold, and it reminded me of how much I really loved Alec. Overall I can just say: I AM SO READY FOR THE NEXT BOOK IN THIS SERIES. So. ready.

That last chapter... I am traumatized. (If you do not want to be spoiled for the book's ending, DON'T read the last paragraph!! Everything else is pretty much spoiler free.) I didn't love Lord of Shadows as much as Lady Midnight, but it is still one of the best books Cassandra Clare has written. However, this book felt (and is) long. Very long. The first 300 pages felt like a completely different book compared to the latter half. I LOVED the part set in Faerie as I think that world is so fascinating. As for the portion set in London, it kind of missed that unique spark the Los Angeles setting provided. I hope we go back to L.A. in the final book, at least for a part of it. At times, the book suffered from middle book syndrome. The endless Emma/Julian and Cristina/Kieran/Mark sections started to drag towards the middle of the book and felt a little repetitive. All that being said, the actual plot of The Dark Artifices is still leagues ahead of both TMI and TID. The villain, or rather villains, actually have real motives, which makes them compelling, in a twisted kind of way. (Compare that to Sebastian Morgenstern or that dude from TID whose name I can't even remember!) Some characters managed to make me physically angry and shout at the book (*cough* ZARA *cough*). SPOILER: Now, for the ending. I did not see Robert's death coming. At all. He was never close to being one of my favourite characters, but he actually managed to grow on me during the last two books. But his death was nothing compared to death #2. What the fuck, Cassandra Clare?! This woman's got balls to kill of the icon, the legend, Miss Livia Blackthorn. My heart is still breaking for Ty and the rest of the Blackthorn family. Yet, I am looking forward to how her death (and Robert's) is going to affect the dynamics in Queen of Air and Darkness.

!!!THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS!!! “Break my heart,” he said. “Break it in pieces. I give you permission.” Jules quote sums it up for me. I am giving Cassandra Clare my heart and permission to break it every single time I pick up her book and start reading. Since I picked up City of Bones I knew this author will be special to me and 10 years later, here I am and I don't regret a single minute reading her beautiful, heart breaking stories and losing myself in this wounderful world. So it's been a year since we all read Lady Midnight and had to deal with the cliffhanger, Mark saying "Why lie?". Until I started to read Lord of Shadows I thought "Oh boy, how will this evolve? Will they really fall in love and how will Julian react?" Thank God Cassie doesn't keep us hanging like some fish on a rod. We get pretty fast answers and see how Emma and Jules feel about each other: Still very much in love! We get a lot of scenes where they talk and clear their situation. Emma tells Julese that her relationship with Mark wasn't real and all made up so he could stop loving her. Jules tells Emma that there is nothing in this world what could make him stop loving her. But now what? They both know now there is the parabatai curse. They obviously (and please don't) want to get all crazy and destroy themselves and everyone around them but also they can't change how they feel about each other. So they follow Magnus suggestion to tell the Inquisitor and ask him for help. For me, this isn't a solution at all, but we will see how this turns out in Book 3. Then there is my precious Ty. I am so happy that we get to learn more about him. Kit points out to Julian that Ty has autism and that there is nothing wrong with Ty, he just is how he is and that isn't either a good or a bad thing. I love how Livvy, Ty and Kit develop a friendship. It feels so pure. Honestly, something everyone of us wishes for themselves. At least, I do. Kit was wondering why Ty was so desperate to have Kit in his life. After Ty told him he wants to solve crimes and need a Watson to his Holmes my heart melted and I wanted to hold Ty and hug him and tell him everything is going to be okay. Mark, Cristina and Kieran. I didn't saw this story coming my way. At first it was strange to see how they three seem to feel for each other ... something. But everyone in another way. One wants love, the other wants ... friendhip, I guess. It is a very unusual realtionship but at the end one about love, respect and honor. Putting everything aside and try to understand one another. Highlight for me was to see Clary and Jace in the beginning. Of course Jace had to meet his cousin. Clary talking to Emma and telling her her secret. By the angel, please don't let us see her vision coming true! I wouldn't survive that. An even bigger highlight was to have a LOT of Alec and Magnus in the book. I love that they were in charge to help the Blackthorns and that they did it out of friendship. However, I am starting to worry what Cassie is preparing us for. Magnus not feeling good? In fact, all Warlocks not feeling well for quite some time? Cassie, what do you want us to start preparing ourselves? And then, there is the last chapter. And when you thought you saw all the bad things already with Malcolm coming back for a short time and raising Annabel and the bad and good faeries... No. Cassie takes you and shows you what you really didn't expected and didn't want to read about it. So we got to the point that Annabel is willing to help the Blackthorns. What happens until then, you have to read the book! But as usual there are some idiots on the Council, Clave and around the trial that think they know better and Annabel, and somehow I understand her, gets scared. She is lots. After all those years of being death and not wishing to come back to life, she is and she can't deal with that at all. You can't blame her on that. But what she does ... because she is scared ... and lost ... I didn't saw this coming and it felt like a punch in my stomach! The Inquisitor dies. Stabbed by Annabel. Robert Lightwood, death. I am not morning his loss now but also, Emma and Jules. I mentioned before I am not a fan of their plan about trying to weaken the parabatai bond, but Robert promised them to help them! But what came next hurt so much more. Annabel kills Livvy. Cassie did it again! TMI Book 3, we have to see Max die. And now Livvy. I love the twins! And I know what Livvy means to Ty. He may have Kit as a friend now, his first friend outside the family, but Kit - no one - can replace his sister, his twin. No one will ever understand him like she did. The last page, Jules holding Livvy in his arms. Feeling how that what make her Livvy is gone. The clock chimes. The gate to Heaven opens. I'm a mess. I love it so much but I am a mess. ... and my biggest worry when I started to read was "Please don't seperate Emma and Jules!"

„Die dunklen Mächte“ – Trilogie setzt allerdings einige Jahre nach „City of Heavenly Fire“ an, weshalb man schon die „Chroniken der Unterwelt“ Reihe kennen sollte. Gelesen hat Simon Jäger die drei Bücher und ich bin immer noch hin und weg von seiner Stimme. Wahnsinnig gefühlvoll und spannend vorgetragen. In dieser Trilogie kommen viele bekannte Namen vor, wie Jace, Clary, Magnus, Alec, Simon, Isabell, …, die stillen Brüder und viele viele weitere. Selbst verständlich lernt man auch neue Menschen, Elfen und andere Wesen kennen, die viel Raum und Platz in den Büchern erhalten haben. Allen voran Emma und Julian, die Parabatais sind und plötzlich doch Gefühle für einander entdecken, die nicht erlaubt sind. Cassandra Clare schreibt hier wieder über viele Schicksale und Beziehungen, die außergewöhnlich sind. Ihre Bücher sind definitiv für die LGBTQ Community. Und das ist auch gut so. Sie hat endlich auch über eine Transgender – Frau geschrieben und das wirklich sehr schön. Ich mag ihre Vielfalt in dieser Hinsicht. Manche mögen behaupten, dass die Clare eintönig schreibt, oder nicht einmal schreiben kann. Doch das kann ich nicht unterschreiben. Im Gegenteil. Sie mag vielleicht eine einfache Art haben, doch die Themen die sie einbaut, sind alles andere als unwichtig. Noch nie habe ich eine Jugendbuch Autorin gelesen, die so konsequent an etwas festhält. In diesen Zeiten, wenn eine JK Rowling negativ auffällt und alle Trans-Frauen ihr Recht entziehen will, ist es wichtig, solche starken Bücher zu haben. Bücher, die den Jugendlichen das Gefühl vermitteln, dass alles gut wird – oder werden könnte. Das es wichtig ist, zu sich und seinen Gefühlen zu stehen. Zu sich als Persönlichkeit. Sie hat Vampir mit Schattenjägerin zusammen gebracht. Schattenjäger mit Hexenmeister, der Trans-Frau (ich verrate nicht ihren Namen) hat sie ein Happy End geschenkt. Das alles kann nur glaubhaft ‚rüberkommen, wenn man aufgeschlossen ist. Und auch zu dem Inhalt wirklich steht. In „Die dunklen Mächte“ wird gekämpft, geliebt, gelitten, geweint, gestritten. Freundschaften kommen, Freundeschaften gehen. Die Familie aber hält zusammen. Nur für einen hätte ich mir dann doch ein anderes Ende gewünscht. Ich musste weinen, lachen und habe mich gefreut. Auch hier haben Alexander Lightwood und Magnus Bane einige Auftritte zusammen, bezaubernde Szene, die mein Herz zum überlaufen gebracht haben. Die Blackthorns, um die es dieser Geschichte hauptsächlich geht, müssen einige Prüfungen überstehen. Prüfungen, die über alles hinausgehen. Julian insbesondere, der seit vielen Jahren das Los Angels Institut leitet, obwohl es eigentlich sein Onkel machen müsste – nachdem die Eltern beim großen Krieg ums Leben gekommen sind. Doch Arthur ist dazu nicht in der Lage, weshalb Julian schon als Jugendlicher mehr Verantwortung übernehmen musste, als manch ein anderer. Dabei ist er nicht mal der älteste der Kinder, doch Mark Blackthorn muss sich einem anderen Schicksal ergeben, während Helen Blackthorn verbannt worden war. Deshalb musste Julian die Rolle einnehmen, um nicht nur das Institut am Leben zu erhalten, sondern auch seine jüngeren Geschwister. Julian schlägt sich wirklich gut, wenn da nicht die Gefühle für Emma wären. Die Trilogie, die ich leider nur als Hörbuch habe, hat mir so unglaublich gut gefallen. Es sind unendlich viele Stunden gewesen, die ich mit der Familie Blackthorn und all den anderen verbracht habe, dass ich am Ende ein eigenartiges Gefühl verspürte. Ich würde jetzt mal behaupten, dass ich knapp 80 Stunden mit dem Hören der Trilogie verbracht habe – im Mai und Juni. Das ist wirklich echt viel. Es ist schwierig, eine Reihenfolge der Geschichte zu generieren, habe ich das Gefühl. Fragt man im Fandom, könnte es schon sein, dass man verschieden Antworten erhält. Vermutlich ist es das Beste, die Geschichten erst zu lesen, wenn man „Chroniken der Unterwelt“ kennt. Im Anschluss einfach mehr oder weniger auf das Erscheindungsdatum achten. Aber Achtung: Magnus Bane habe ich selbst nach dem vierten Buch gelesen, wenn ich mich jetzt nicht irre. Weil man sich sonst selbst spoilert, wenn man alles andere gelesen hat. Magnus Bane endet sehr frustrierend. Zu „Die roten Schriftrollen“ werde ich im nächsten Post etwas schreiben. Dieses Buch ist theoretisch auch nach Band vier angesetzt, laut Cassandra Clare. „Die dunklen Mächte“ ist meine neuen Lieblings – Trilogie.

As I'd mentioned in my updates while reading, I still didn't like all of the characters but that's fine. Sometimes characters are made that way so they can surprise you, and I have to admit I loved the character dynamics in this book. However, the end is super disappointing. It feels rushed. Maybe it's because I'd come across a spoiler when I had only just started reading... and I'd been waiting for it to crush me, but neither did it really stirr my emotions in the end nor did it make much sense at all. Killing her feels like a mere plot device. It happened without any prior building of anticipation of some sort of drama, and my initial thought after the fact was that it's just for the benefit of Kit and Ty, which sucks. I liked the book overall, but due to everything being smashed into the last ~50 pages I cannot give this book more than 3 stars.

Genau wie der erste Teil dieser Trilogie, hab ich es geliebt die Blackthorns Familie+ Emma zu verfolgen. Julian und Emma’s Beziehung ist einfach wunderschön anzuschauen und zu lesen. Die Storyline ist genau an den ersten Band angeschlossen und sehr faszinierend.

I hate that it took me one entire month to finish this amazing book, but school is merciless... I love how the entire plot unfolded, from a seemingly disconnected beginning to an amazing finale (horrible but amazing). Since it took me such a long time to get to the end of the book I don't remember things as well as I would like, but... I loved how awkward Mark's and Emma's relationship was, but how it brought them closer together, how it made them such good friends. And even more than that I loved Kit's, Ty's and Livvy's growing friendship, how sweet and all-encompassing it became in such a short time. And I loved Kieran's, Mark's and Cristina's relationship, how it grew and changed and was confusing to all parts. It was beautiful to see all these friendships unfold. And then there was Julian's love for Emma and how he struggled with it. And how she struggled. The arrival of the Centurions was a twist that I hated because of how the characters act. The part of the Centurions are complete bastards! With Hitler like thoughts that are too scary to consider in modern times... Malcolm was a surprise, I was not expecting him back, and so was Annabel! I was expecting her to be mean and the main "villain" in this book, but she was just a scared girl trying to do her best in a broken world... The fact that Malcolm had brought her back (just her conscious) unknowingly broke her in ways that are not describable, and, still, she did not hurt anyone else but him. And when she killed Robert and Livvia (more on that later) it was because she was forced to testify with the Mortal Sword! Emma says that, that she was disconnected and dead. She was at her limit then, I believe... Having everyone call her a liar and all the other names they were calling her proved too much for her fragile sanity... Things got a lot more interesting when they fled to the London Institute (and, oh, it brought back so many memories!!!). Magnus and Alec were there too and it was cosy! It allowed for more Kit-Ty-Livvy and more Cristina-Mark-Kieran. And then the Riders of Mannan attacked and it was crazy and insane and they barely got out of there! And the last time Annable helped them and it was a relief because they were between a rock and a hard place. Oh, and Cristina, Mark, Emma and Julian went to Faerie and it was a whole other mess! The Unseelie King is a terrifying person just because of all he does. And the Seelie Queen seems just a tad changed (with her son a prisoner of the King) but I still don't trust her, after the TMI. We'll see how that goes... And then there's amazing Diana and Gwyn! I had a feeling, from the first book, that the reason that she didn't take the place of Head of the Institute because of something related to her sexuality, but I was not expecting her heartwrenching story! And Gwyn, that amazing Hunter, with an amazing heart (that I also did not expect from such a fear-striking character), was the best! He had such a sweet reaction! And it goes to show that he truly cared about Diana, regardless of her past! And I love them for it! Besides, Diana fought so hard for the Blackthorns the only way she could. And they were almost there... But, of course, everything went to hell... Rober died, and I can't imagine Alec's pain; Livvia died and the world seemed frozen all around the Blackthorns. And what was up with Livvy's death, huh? What is really necessary to butcher such a young and lovely character? Did Annabel have to do that?! It was just cruel! And, yeah, something had snapped inside her, but the Mortal Sword broke (and what in the Angle's name was that?! How is that even possible?! And what was the black thing pouring out of it?) I thought it had kind of snapped whatever it was that was messing with Annabel's head... Apparently not... And, of course, the Unseelie King came for Annabel, because why not! He is already on a mission to destroy Shadowhunters and having Annabel with him might be in his favour, given her history with her own kind... I loved this book, it was amazing (even if I would have been a lot more emotional and attached to it if school hadn't gotten in the way...). It was a beautiful second instalment and I can't wait for the next one!

I will say, it felt like it took ages to finish this book.. probably because it actually did. But Boy let me tell you that it had nothing to do with the book (I just had my annual reading slump to deal with) If anything this book got me back into reading. *spoilers ahead* Not only did I love the romances building and developing, whether between Emma and Julian, Ty and Kit, Christina and Mark and Kieran or even Diana and Gwyn. All of our main characters went through their own personal struggles and achieved such good character developments. I loved hearing more about Dru and her feelings. I loved seeing Mark binding with his family again and Kieran warming up to the rest of the world. My precious baby Ty finally found the Watson to his Sherlock. And of course Emma and Julian... As much as I would wish for them to just move on and live their life I cant deny how much my heart burns for them. Besides that there is obviously the amazing twists and turns the story line took throughout this book. I enjoyed to follow our protagonists around the world, while they were grasping onto every hint they got. I loved trying to solve the mystery along with them and finding out about Annabell and her past as well as all the different secrets and intrigues among the lines of the shadowhunters. Adding to that I am enjoying Cassie Clare's writing style more and more with every book. She still manages to grow and develop as a writer every time and for me that's also what impacts the book for me a lot. Finally I want to say that especially the last chapter sent me through a rough rollercoaster of emotions. I cannot tell you how devastated Livy's story left me and how shook I was about Annabell's actions. I started crying as soon as I read about Robert Lightwood's death, but oh if I just knew what was about to come... When Julian held onto Livy for dear life I felt everything and nothing. My chest started hurting like I just lost a real person because throughout these two books I just grew onto Livia so much. She just felt like such a honest, intelligent, beautiful and caring soul, that you could instantly connect with in real life. So of course I also did in the story and reading this just broke my heart... All of that is more than enough of a reason to dive into the last book of this series. And since this was a solid 5 star read for me, I have high expectations for the grand series finale.

"Lord of Shadows" ist der zweite Band der Dark Artifices Reihe von Cassandra Clare, das zum Shadowhunters-Universum gehört und die Geschichte von Emma Carstairs und Julian Blackthorn weiter erzählt. Ich habe das Buch vor drei Monaten beendet und es seither dreimal gelesen, weil ich mich nicht entscheiden konnte, wie ich es in einer Rezension beschreiben soll. Handlung: Eigentlich geht alles um das Black Volume. Ein Zauberbuch, das - wie immer - in den falschen Händen gewaltigen Schaden anrichten kann. Alle, egal ob Schattenjäger oder Unterweltler, versuchen das Buch für ihre Zwecke in die Finger zu bekommen. Weil sich so ein magischer Gegenstand nicht direkt von Beginn an zeigt, ist die Handlung ein ziemliches Chaos und lässt sich in mehrere Einzelteile aufteilen. Zum einen wären da Emma und Julian, die sich gegen ihre Gefühle füreinander wehren und verschieden damit umgehen. Bereits im letzten Band erfuhr der Leser, dass Emma Julian's Bruder Mark bittet ihren Freund zu spielen, damit sie Julian auf Abstand halten kann. Die Liebe zwischen Parabatai ist gefährlich und verboten. Dann gibt es noch Kit, der zwar mit der Schattenwelt aufgewachsen ist, aber erst nach dem Tod seines Adoptivvaters Johnny Rook erfährt, dass er ein Schattenjäger ist und zu welcher Familienlinie er wirklich gehört. Er wehrt sich dagegen, aber nirgendwo anders ist er sicherer als im Institut. Dort entwickelt er besonders zu Ty Blackthorn einen Draht. Ein großer Teil von "Lord of Shadows" spielt in der Feenwelt, die besonders nach dem Krieg für Schattenjäger gefährlich ist und sie vor neue Herausforderungen stellt. Auch Clary und Jace nehmen einen Teil des Buches ein, in dem Clary Andeutungen über Visionen macht, die einem Angst und Bange machen. Die größte Bedrohung könnten diesmal jedoch nicht die Konflikte in der Unterwelt sein, sondern eine Gruppierung Schattenjäger, die nicht davor zurück schrecken Lügen zu verbreiten um das Los Angeles Institut unter ihre Kontrolle zu bekommen. Alle Blackthorns werden durch verschiedene Szenarien gefährdet. Einstieg: Emma's Gedankenwelt ist ein offenes Buch, was den Widereinstieg in die Geschichte leicht macht. Direkt ist klar, dass Clare sich viel Zeit für die persönlichen Entwicklungen der Charaktere nimmt, während die Story eher unbemerkt voranschreitet. Stimmung beim lesen: Ich war noch nie so zwiegespalten um ehrlich zu sein. Einerseits liebe ich diese Charaktere und alles, was sie erleben. Es gibt genügend Spannung, Action und Kampf und innere Konflikte. Leider habe ich noch nie was für die ganze Feen-Geschichten dieser Bücher übrig gehabt und "Lord of Shadows" bietet davon im Überfluss an. Gleichzeitig hatte ich das Gefühl der Plot steckt im Schlamm und will sich nicht vorwärts bewegen. Und am Ende überschlägt sich natürlich wieder alles. Mir fiel es schwer mich auf etwas zu fokussieren, weil es einfach zu viele Charaktere gibt und zu viele Mini-Hinweise, die einem schnell entgehen können. Charaktere: Die Geschichte begann zwar im ersten Band mit Emma und Julian, doch sie teilen sich längst die Bühne mit allen anderen Charakteren. Die Blackthorn-Geschwister sind keine Lückenfüller, sondern fordern ihren Platz im Geschehen und sind bereit zu kämpfen. Julian, der als älterer Bruder die Verantwortung hat, rückt ein wenig von ihnen weg, weil er woanders gebraucht wird und man könnte fast sagen Ist die Katze aus dem Haus, tanzen die Mäuse auf den Tischen. Nicht auf negative Art, versteht sich. Auch Clary und Jace sagen kurz Hallo und sprechen von einer geheimen Mission, und besonders Clary hat Emma etwas zu sagen, was den Leser neugierig macht, am Ende jedoch nur hinhält. Magnus Bane darf natürlich nicht fehlen und auch wenn ich voreingenommen bin, weil er mein absoluter Lieblingscharakter ist, finde ich seine Szenen einfach am besten. Ereignisreich und belustigend; Magnus ist eben auffällig. Und wo der Hexenmeister ist, ist Alec Lightwood natürlich auch nicht weit und ihre zwei süßen Adoptivkinder... Davon will ich erst gar nicht anfangen, sonst schwärme ich morgen noch ;) Besondere Überraschungen unter den Charakteren bieten Diana Wrayburn, die Tutorin der Blackthorns und Arthur Blackthorn, den Julian aus gutem Grund auf dem Dachboden versteckt. Beide nehmen eine große Rolle ein, die mir gefallen haben. Wenig Freude bringen die Centurios mit, angeführt von Cristina's Ex Diego Rosales und der aufstrebenden Schattenjägerin Zara Dearborn. Sie machen sich breit, sind eine speziell ausgebildete Elitetruppe und die Blackthorns trauen ihnen nicht. Besonders Zara ist ein Charakter, den man zweimal betrachtet. Irgendwie ist es unmöglich alle Charaktere zu benennen oder ihre Reise zu erläutern, denn "Lord of Shadows" ist gewaltig! Clare bietet einfach alles an, was sie geben kann und besonders die Beziehung zwischen dem Halbfeenwesen Mark Blackthorn und dem Feenprinzen Kieran ist außergewöhnlich beschrieben, die durch Cristina zu etwas wird, was ich faszinierend fand. Man muss es lesen um es zu verstehen. Neben Clare's anderer Dreiecksbeziehung zwischen Jem, Will und Tessa aus den Chroniken der Schattenjäger ist das zwischen Mark, Kieran und Cristina die einzige Dreiecksgeschichte, die mir Freude bereitet. Allgemein entwickeln sich in diesem Band einige Beziehungen, ob freundschaftlich, romantisch oder Bündnisse. Positiv: Am meisten hat mir zu Beginn das Gespräch zwischen Clary und Emma gefallen, als sie über Jonathan reden, den die meisten als Sebastian kannten und der u.a. für den Tod von Emma's Eltern verantwortlich ist. Wer "Lord of Shadows" liest, kennt eigentlich auch Die Chroniken der Schattenjäger und wieso Clary ihren Bruder umbringen musste. Deshalb ist es auch so leicht Verständnis sowohl für Clary als auch Emma aufzubringen. Als Leser sieht man beide Blickwinkel, aber man sieht auch zwei junge Frauen, die alles füreinander tun würden und wie sich gegenseitig Trost spenden. Jedes Blackthorn-Kind bekommt seinen Fokus und endlich hatte ich persönlich das Gefühl sie besser auseinander halten und verstehen zu können. Bisher hatte Julian immer seine schützende Hand über sie, weshalb dieser zweite Band einiges an Charakterentwicklung zu bieten hat! Negativ: Der Klappentext hat mir in diesem Fall wirklich das Lesevergnügen versaut, denn meiner Meinung nach ist das ein ziemlicher Spoiler in einem Buch, wo man eine Lupe braucht um alle Plot-Pfade zu erkennen. Wer dieser Lord of Shadows ist wird nämlich so verwirrend und einige hundert Seiten später erwähnt, dass es keine wirkliche Erklärung ist. Als Leser wartet man auf diese Enthüllung noch länger als im ersten Band bei Lady Midnight. Dass der Feenkönig alle mit Blackthorn Blut abschlachten will, kam irgendwie auch nicht ganz bei mir an, da es doch ein wenig anders erzählt wurde. So lala: Ich weiß nicht, ob ich die Entwicklung der Geschichte unter positiv oder negativ einsortieren soll, denn es ist eine Mischung zwischen beidem. Für meinen Geschmack gibt es einfach zu viel Material, welches die Feen einbindet, die ich nicht mag und mit denen ich wohl nie warm werde. Deshalb sage ich ganz offen, dass meine Meinung davon beeinflusst ist. Im Grunde habe ich nur weiter gelesen, weil mir die Charaktere schon seit Jahren am Herzen liegen und ich nicht einfach aufgeben wollte, nur weil mir ein Strang der Geschichte nicht gefällt. Das sich letztendlich also alles rasant überschlägt und auf den finalen Seiten ein Kampf mit einem unerträglichen Cliffhanger stattfindet, hat mich kalt erwischt. Schreibstil: Cassandra Clare jongliert mit so vielen Charakteren, streut gefühlte Millionen Hinweise ein und schafft es mit Bravour sich nicht in einem riesigen, unübersichtlichen Netz zu verfangen. Das nötigt mir einiges an Respekt ab. Die Perspektive wechselt sich sehr oft, ist aber fließend und sehr gut geschrieben, so dass man alles weiterhin im Blick hat. Fazit: Wenn "Lord of Shadows" eines ist, dann Charakterstark! Nicht nur, weil es eine Fülle an Lieblingscharakteren präsentiert, sondern auch deren Gefühle und Tiefe mit einbezieht. Die Handlung ist struktiert, aber ziemlich versteckt, da der Fokus auf den Charakteren liegt und wie sie die Dinge angehen und so kommt nach einigen Kapiteln schon etwas Frust auf, da ich fieberhaft auf das gewartet habe, was der Buchumschlag verspricht. Fans von Chroniken der Unterwelt dürfen sich auf ein paar Momente mit Clary und Jace freuen und auch Magnus Bane rettet wieder einmal mehr den Tag. Das Gesamtkonzept, die Suche nach dem Black Volume, ist ein verworrener Handlungsstrang, der tote Charaktere einbindet und mehr als einmal für negative Gänsehaut sorgt. Es empfiehlt sich also genau aufzupassen. Dieses Buch bietet einige Überraschungen, die manchmal zum schmunzeln einladen, aber auch für Tränen sorgen können. Am Ende sollte man sich definitiv auf ein Ave atque vale vorbereiten, denn auch wenn "Lord of Shadows" mit einem Cliffhanger endet, passiert einiges, was das Fanherz stillstehen lässt. Clare hat es wieder einmal geschafft eine Geschichte abzuliefern, die dramatisch, an den richtigen Stellen unterhaltsam und aufwühlend ist. Niemand ist sicher, aber jeder Krieg hat auch ein paar ruhigere Momente und die Autorin erschafft eine interessante Mischung.

Es ist halb zwei nachts. Mein Herz ist gebrochen und ich weiß nicht ob ich aufhören kann zu weinen. Dieses Buch hat mich emotional kaputt gemacht mit dem Ende.

SPOILER FREE REVIEW Almost 10 years ago, when City of Bones was released in Germany and a friend of mine told me I should read it, I fell in love with this amazing world Cassandra Clare has created immediately. And today, almost 10 years later, I’m still here, heartbroken by her books and longing for more. The Mortal Instruments helped me through a rather tough time of my life, which is why the TMI series will always hold a special place in my heart. But although the TMI series has always been my favorite and probably always will be, The Dark Artifices is her most sophisticated work so far. I know I said it already in my Lady Midnight review as well as in pretty much all my bookstagram posts that feature Cassandra’s books, but I will say it again: The Dark Artifices is Cassandra Clare’s best work yet. Lord of Shadows was my most anticipated read this year; it’s that ONE sequel we’ve all been waiting for and it for sure did not disappoint. Cassandra Clare developed and grew so much as an author the past couple of years; everything, EVERYTHING, her writing, the world building, the characters. Just EVERYTHING! I cannot remember the last time a book made my heart feel so empty but yet so full of love. Lord of Shadows is one epic read and the way it’s told, the way Cassandra manages to weave all the different threads together is beyond amazing and simply mind blowing. This book was everything I wanted it to be and even more. But I know the shock will stay with me for quite a while now because damn, I didn’t see that coming at all. This is such an intense read, beautifully constructed and deep, yet it also has some comedic content which I loved because I just adore Cassandra Clare’s humor. Lord of Shadows for sure immerses deeper into the whole Shadowhunter World than any of her other books before. We get to learn so many new things; things that all of a sudden all make sense. We learn more about the Cold Peace, about the relationships between all characters, get to be witnesses to the rising tension between Downworlders and Shadowhunters. I lost track on how many theories I had going into this book, and although some of them turned out to be true, some others were just totally off and things happened, that I’ve never imagined would or could happen; things that I did not see coming at all. I loved how the whole story doesn’t only focus on Emma and Julian and their love story though; I loved how we were able to get more perspectives from a lot of other characters too: Kit, Ty, Livvy, Dru and Diana for example. And we all know there are a lot of characters in her books; all different kinds of characters to be exact; characters from all different places/countries of different religions etc. pp. We have a huge part of the LGBQTIAP+ community represented, not only gay and bisexual characters, but also asexual and transgender characters. We even have same sex parents. We have POC protagonists and different body types, and we have such a beautiful representation of the Autism spectrum. I’m blown away by how Cassie manages to create and include so many amazing and different kinds of characters in her books. Every single character in this series has grown so much. It was so much fun to learn more about them, to get to know them better. We also get to meet four characters from the TMI series, which I totally loved. It always feels like meeting old friends again that I haven’t seen for a very long time. To see how Emma, Julian, Mark and Cristina have grown since book one and throughout book two was an absolute pleasure. All the problems they have to face; all the things they have to deal with and how they handle all of it made me so proud. Watching them becoming adults, even the younger ones, was so beautiful but also sad at the same time because you just do not wish a 14 year old to have to fight in a war. The plot is absolutely insane. I am amazed by how Cassandra manages to weave everything together, characters and storylines from every book from the Shadowhunter Chronicles. I can’t imagine how she does that; either she has like a million notebooks or maybe she just has a huge memory. She’s so talented when it comes to plotting because in the end it all makes sense but it’s still a huge surprise because she always comes up with something new; something you possibly could have never thought of but it’s all necessary and it all makes so much sense, it’s just mind blowing. I also loved how so many different places are featured in this book; loved all the journeys the characters went on, from Los Angeles to London, to Faerieland, to Cornwell, to Idris … it’s like one huge adventure I’d love to be on myself. But of course with all of that comes the heartbreak; the tears – the break down too, but it’s still so good and perfectly and beautifully written. The books in the Shadowhunter Chronicles get better and better. I’m so impressed by Cassandra’s talent, by her passion; by the amazing books she writes. I can only applaud her for her talent. Her books are simply fantastic. I can truly say that I’m all satisfied and simply blown away. All the decisions made were necessary and no matter how bad it seems to be and how heart wrenching it is, I stand by all decisions made because as I said, it all makes sense in the end and I’m sure it will even more as soon as we all get to read the third book; all of it was kind of necessary and I just can’t thank Cassandra Clare enough for making me feel so at home with every book she writes. 4.5 ⭐️ "Heroes aren't always the ones who one. They're the ones who lose, sometimes. But they keep fighting, they keep coming back. They don't give up." (p.59) Damn, especially in those last 50 pages, it got reeeally good. My heart is broken. For me, Lady Midnight just didn't blow my mind, like the Clockwork-books did. But Lord of Shadows definitely did. I still think the book would have been better with 100 pages less, because damn those books are chunky (and heavy to hold lol).

Alle Charaktere haben mir ausnahmslos gut gefallen - sowohl die Guten, als auch die Schlechten haben mich einfach begeistern können. Emma ist in diesem Band unheimlich stark gewesen und vor vielen Aktionen kann ich nur meinen Hut ziehen. Auf der anderen Seite wollte ich Sie teilweise einfach nehmen und schütteln. Julian hat mir in diesem Band ebenfalls unheimlich gut gefallen und hat eine ganz andere Seite von sich gezeigt. Teilweise war ich einfach nur geschockt und wusste nicht, was ich denken sollte. Auch Er war in meinen Augen unheimlich stark und gerade das Ende hat mir das Herz rausgerissen! Mark, Kieran und Cristina haben mir wirklich wirklich gut gefallen und die Wendungen haben mich immer wieder aufs neue verwundert. Dasselbe gilt für Kit, Ty und Livvy - einfach alle Charaktere waren wunderbar! Außerdem trifft man auch alte Bekannte wieder und was soll ich sagen? Diese haben sich in keinster Weise verändert und sehr zu dem Flair des "nach Hause kommens" beigetragen. Dieser Aspekt hat mir wirklich wirklich gut gefallen und ich hätte noch Stunden solche Szenen lesen können. Auf der anderen Seite hatte ich einen unfassbar großen Hass auf andere Charaktere und wollte Sie eigenhändig umbringen - ich hoffe inständig, dass in Band 3 alle Ihre gerechte Strafe bekommen werden. Generell gesagt war die Handlung einfach der Hammer - von der ersten Seite an, war es wie ein Sog, in den man gezogen wurde. Ich kann an dieser Stelle leider nicht genau drauf eingehen, aber dieses Buch hat mich nicht nur einmal geschockt zurückgelassen. Mir gefielen gerade die Kampfszenen unheimlich gut und ich habe mich wirklich so gefühlt, als ob ich direkt mit Ihnen kämpfen würde. Insgesamt springt man wirklich von einer bedeutenden Szene in die nächste und weiß auch gar nicht, was als nächstes passieren könnte. Was an dieser Stelle auch noch angeführt werden muss: diese tollen Romanzen - mein Herz schlägt jetzt noch höher, wenn ich auch nur daran denke! Cassandra Clare hat wirklich alle erdenklich möglichen Emotionen in mir hervorgerufen - von Schock, Freude, Liebe, über Hass bis hin zu Trauer. Was ich an dieser Stelle ebenfalls noch besonders hervorheben möchte ist der fantastische Humor - ich habe in diesem Buch unheimlich oft und laut lachen müssen. Die Charaktere haben alle Ihren Teil dazu beigetragen und ich habe mir einige Sprüche abgucken können. Das Ende dieses Buches ist einfach das Tüpfelchen auf dem i und hat mich sprachlos, ja irgendwie "leer", zurückgelassen. Was mir seitens des Verlages nicht ganz so gut gefallen hat, ist der Klappentext. Meiner Meinung nach, spiegelt dieser in keinster Weise wieder, was wirklich in dem Buch passiert. Immerhin besser, als wenn Er spoilern würde, aber dennoch (das ist aber nur meine persönliche Meinung). Fazit Das Buch bekommt 5 von 5 Sterne von mir! Cassandra Clare mich wieder einmal in die Welt der Schattenjäger ziehen können und dort wurde ich auf eine Achterbahnfahrt der Gefühle mitgenommen. Meiner Meinung nach ist Cassandra Clare eine der besten Autorinnen und somit kann ich Euch Ihre Bücher mehr als nur empfehlen!

No,no,no...what did you do to me?? Currently, I don't have words to describe how I feel about this book.. But why do we have to wait sooo long for a sequel when a book has such a cliffhanger?

This was so incredibly good! And maybe I'm a little bit devestated, now that I've read the last pages. This whole book was an emotional roller-coaster, and I love it with my whole heart. My favorite Cassandra Clare book yet. I think I even love this Trilogy more than the Infernal Devices. I'm a little ashamed and angry at myself that it took me so long to finally read it. The plot, the characters, the writing, everything about this is brilliant.

Reread 2018: We get used to living one way, even if it's a bad way or a hard one. When that's gone, there's a hole to fill. It's in our nature to try to fill it with anxieties and fears. It can take time to fill it with good things instead. I still think that this is Cassie's best work so far but I'm optimistic that she's gonna top this with QOAAD. I can't wait to FINALLY continue! I can't even imagine what's gonna await me. 1st reading: This might be the best book I’ve ever read?! As much as I love Harry Potter and The Infernal Devices, there are more than a few dull moments in them where I just don’t want to continue reading or skip these scenes entirely. This wasn’t the case in Lord of Shadows. I wasn’t able to put this book down. At first I was rather sceptical when I realised it has different POVs but I loved them. I loved every single page and the characters are amazing! There were so many moments in which I laughed out loud and Mark continues to be one of my all time favourite characters for scenes such as: - Julian sought Mark in the crowd on the steps. He was standing with his hands behind his back, exchanging a mistrustful look with a carved stone gnome. "Your pretense does not fool me, gnome," he muttered. "My eyes will be upon you." -Once they got a picture of Mark's foot. Neither of them knew what to make of that. Cassandra Clare writes these hilarious dialogues and yet manages it to completely shatter my heart with the last chapter. And I loved the references to TID! “I don’t know what comes after death. Tessa used to come and ask me too. She wanted to know where Will was.” Do you hear this? This is the sound of my heart breaking. And what is wrong with all the warlocks? I’m not ready for Magnus’ or Tessa’s death. And Livvy? WHY? The last sentence broke me heart. I don’t want to wait until 2019 but I’m excited to see if the Queen of Air and Darkness can top this.
