Lord of Shadows (2) (The Dark Artifices)

I can't breath. I really need the third book right away. I could not put it down. It has tension, romance, fighting and all sorts of different characters. Love the diversity here. Also loved to read more of Magnus and Alec, they fit really well into the story.

OMG...dieses Buch lässt mich völlig leer und zerstört zurück...Die mehreren Handlungsstränge sind sehr spannend und gut mit einander verbunden.ich muss unbedingt wissen wie es weiter geht.

Oh wow! Ich kann nicht glauben, dass ein zweiter Band mich mal so in den Bann genommen hat. Zu erfahren wie es rund um die Blackthrons und Carstairs weiter geht und nun auch Kit. By the way.. kit und Ty..??? Es war interessant zu sehen, wie sich die Beziehungen weiter entwickeln und wie das Buch endete.. damit hatte ich nicht gerechnet. Es kann alles verändern.

Nicht ganz so stark wie Band 1. Die Charaktere sind wirklich der Hammer und als dann auch noch Magnus und Alec aus Chroniken der Unterwelt dazugekommen sind, war ich restlos begeistert. Da ich nicht viel Zeit hatte zum Lesen, hat sich alles einfach ziemlich gezogen. Das wird nun bei Band 3 hoffentlich wieder besser. ABER DIESER SCHLUSS!!!!!! Cassandra Clare weiß wie man Herzen bricht.. Ich habe zwar mit so was in der Art gerechnet aber das war.........Argggg. habe deswegen auch etwas Angst Band 3 zu lesen bzw. wie es jetzt weitergehen soll.

That last chapter... I am traumatized. (If you do not want to be spoiled for the book's ending, DON'T read the last paragraph!! Everything else is pretty much spoiler free.) I didn't love Lord of Shadows as much as Lady Midnight, but it is still one of the best books Cassandra Clare has written. However, this book felt (and is) long. Very long. The first 300 pages felt like a completely different book compared to the latter half. I LOVED the part set in Faerie as I think that world is so fascinating. As for the portion set in London, it kind of missed that unique spark the Los Angeles setting provided. I hope we go back to L.A. in the final book, at least for a part of it. At times, the book suffered from middle book syndrome. The endless Emma/Julian and Cristina/Kieran/Mark sections started to drag towards the middle of the book and felt a little repetitive. All that being said, the actual plot of The Dark Artifices is still leagues ahead of both TMI and TID. The villain, or rather villains, actually have real motives, which makes them compelling, in a twisted kind of way. (Compare that to Sebastian Morgenstern or that dude from TID whose name I can't even remember!) Some characters managed to make me physically angry and shout at the book (*cough* ZARA *cough*). SPOILER: Now, for the ending. I did not see Robert's death coming. At all. He was never close to being one of my favourite characters, but he actually managed to grow on me during the last two books. But his death was nothing compared to death #2. What the fuck, Cassandra Clare?! This woman's got balls to kill of the icon, the legend, Miss Livia Blackthorn. My heart is still breaking for Ty and the rest of the Blackthorn family. Yet, I am looking forward to how her death (and Robert's) is going to affect the dynamics in Queen of Air and Darkness.

As I'd mentioned in my updates while reading, I still didn't like all of the characters but that's fine. Sometimes characters are made that way so they can surprise you, and I have to admit I loved the character dynamics in this book. However, the end is super disappointing. It feels rushed. Maybe it's because I'd come across a spoiler when I had only just started reading... and I'd been waiting for it to crush me, but neither did it really stirr my emotions in the end nor did it make much sense at all. Killing her feels like a mere plot device. It happened without any prior building of anticipation of some sort of drama, and my initial thought after the fact was that it's just for the benefit of Kit and Ty, which sucks. I liked the book overall, but due to everything being smashed into the last ~50 pages I cannot give this book more than 3 stars.

Aufgerieben zwischen den Intrigen des Feenkönigs und der unerbittlichen Härte jahrtausendealter Gesetze müssen Emma, Julian und Mark ihre privaten Sorgen vergessen und gemeinsam für all das kämpfen, was sie lieben – bevor es zu spät ist und ein neuer Krieg ausbricht ... Meine Meinung: Band 1 konnte mich ja schon nicht so ganz überzeugen, aber ich wollte doch unbedingt weiterlesen. Der Einstieg in das Buch fiel mir dieses mal viel leichter. Ich fand schnell in meinen Lesefluss. Der Schreibstil der Autorin ist wie gewohnt, flüssig und gut. Jedoch muss ich von der Story einfach sagen, es fühlt sich stellenweise für mich so an wie eine 0815 Wiederholung von Jace & Clary. Ich konnte dieses Gefühl einfach nicht abschütteln. Trotzdem hat die Autorin aber ihren eigenen Charme beim erzählen, was es mir doch sehr leicht gemacht hat das Buch zu lesen. Die Geschichte, wie schon erwähnt, fühlte sich stellenweise so an als würd ich noch mal die reihe "City of Bones" lesen, nur das es hier nicht Jace & Clary ist sondern Emma und Julian. Ich liebe die Welt die die Autorin für uns erschaffen hat, wirklich, heiss und innig. Jedoch kam mir hier die Story sehr eingefahren vor - es drehte sich alles ausschließlich um "Komplizierte Liebe". Ein ewiges Hin und Her der Protagonisten führte nicht wirklich dazu das ich mich unterhalten fühlte. Auch fehlte mir hier schlicht die Action. Gegen Ende hin nahm diese zwar zu, aber es reichte für mich halt doch nicht wirklich ganz... Was mir hier auch noch aufgefallen ist, sind doch die relativ oft vorkommenden Logik Lücken. Zumindest für mich. Auch wusste ich Zeitweise gar nicht ob das Szenario im JETZT spielt, oder Vorgestern, oder vor einem Jahr... oder oder... das hat mich doch alles verwirrt. Jedoch muss ich einfach sagen, es fühlte sich doch schön an. Zumindest stellenweise. Viele beschreiben es als "nach Hause kommen" und ich muss dem wirklich zustimmen. Auch wenn es seine auf und abs hat. Nicht ganz so Actionreich ist. Wenn man sich aber im klaren ist, dass es hier (wieder) um eine, ja doch komplizierte, Liebesgeschichte handelt, der wird wohl nicht enttäuscht werden. Eine schöne, komplizierte, hin&her Liebesstory in der Welt der Schattenjäger. Ich kann mir vorstellen das Band 3 alles raushauen wird, jedoch war dies dann doch einfach nur ein "Brücken Buch" das uns die Wartezeit auf Band 3 verkürzen sollte. Für alle Fans sicherlich ein muss. Ob ich mir Band 3 holen werde? Mal sehen.... :) Das Cover gefällt mir wirklich gut, und macht sich auch gut im Regal. Ich find es nur etwas düster. Auf was ich erst viel viel später gekommen bin. Dreht man das Buch leicht, sieht man die Skyline von London *.* Fazit: Für mich ein guter zweiter Band. Aber leider konnte ich auch bei diesem band nicht so ganz hineinfinden. Ich liebe die Welt rund um die Schattenjäger, aber leider ist mir hier einfach zu wenig Action, zu viel liebe (-sprobleme) und eigentlich auch viel zu wenig Dämonen. Daher gibts von mir 3 von 5 Masken

There are not many non-spoilery things I can say about this book, since I want to discuss important plot points and character developments in this review, but I can say that I think that this is Cassie’s best work until now. It was the most sophisticated and best written book of hers, in my opinion. The plot was extremely interesting, and so eventful. Usually with Cassie Clare books there is this part in the middle where not a lot happens, and you could basically just skip it. However, this book is completely different, since every piece of information that is given is important to the story. Another thing I loved so much was that the characters in this book acted so mature. Miscommunication is one of my biggest pet peeves in books, and it was really refreshing to see how well things can work out when people just TALK to each other. Emma and Mark are honest to each other, Emma and Julian are, Christina and Mark are; it’s just great. I loved it. From here on out the review will contain SPOILERS, so if you haven’t read the book yet, please do not read any further! Also: I apologize in advance for how messy this review is going to be. :) So let’s talk about the characters and their relationship to each other first: Kit and Ty are everything in this book. We really get to see their friendship develop, and their love for each other grow and grow. It has already been announced by Cassie that these two are going to be the main protagonists of her The Wicked Powers series, and I am so ready for it. Kit discovers that he doesn’t really want to leave the Blackthorns, and they are where he belongs. The scene where the Fairie riders ask who he is, and he says “Christopher Herondale” really shows how much he himself has grown as a character. However, when Ty asks Kit if he wants to be the Watson to his Sherlock, I just sobbed. They have to be together forever; I will not accept anything less. At the end, when Livy dies and we see Ty fall unconscious because of this pain and loss, I just imagine how Kit and Ty are going to grow together even more now that they need each other the most! I am SO READY for more Kit and Ty. Another couple that I never thought I’d ship, but I do, is Gwyn and Diana. When Diana told Gwyn her story, and how she struggles with her identity, and he just says: “Can I hold you?” my heart MELTED. I never saw Gwyn as an actual character, he was always just like this big, untouchable guy, but he is just a huge teddy bear and I love him and anyone who hurts him or Diana can fight me. Then we have the whole Christina/Kieran/Mark thing going on that I really don’t know what to think of. Kieran gets tortured in Fairie and loses his memories, only so that the Unseelie King can later give it back to him again. Tension arises between Mark and Kieran, but I wat them to be together, because they BELONG TOGETHER. I like the dynamic these three characters have with each other, but honestly, I don’t see Christina with either of them. Since Diego might be back in the game now she can have him for what I care. And, of course, we have Emma and Julian. As I said before, I really appreciated it that they were honest with each other in this book, and just stopped playing. I appreciated that Emma and Mark didn’t fall in love (because they don’t fit together, like, AT ALL?) and that they agreed to just be friends very early on in the book. I feared that there was love triangle happening between Emma, Mark and Julian, and I would ahve hated that. Luckily, this didn't happen! Emma and Julian have a long way to go now, since their only hope Robert was killed off to (HOW DARE SHE kill off characters from other books? How? Why?). But in this book I feel like we saw Julian’s real self, and what he would sacrifice for his family and Emma. (Breaking all Parabatai bonds ever? Yeah sure, why not? Emma you in? NO JULIAN STOP) Moving on with the plot: Apparently Jace and Clary (who will die soon? What?) go into Fairie to look for a weapon Sebastian left there. My mind IMMEDIATELY went back to the Seelie Queen and her and Sebastian's child, but that wasn’t explained any further, so I kind of forgot about it. THEN Dru gets teleported into Fairie and she meets a thirteen year old boy with WHITE-BLONG HAIR AND GREEN EYES???? SEBASTIAN IS THAT YOU??? If we don’t get to see more of that boy in the next book I am going to FLIP. So our group goes into Fairie to rescue Kieran, and apparently their Shadowhunter powers do not work there. The Unseelie King is a fascinating character, and his sons too, so I really hope we will visit him again in the next few books! However, the Seelie Queen appears again, and nobody is surprised that she is here? I mean, wasn’t she like, gone after the war? Where does she come from suddenly, and why does nobody question it? Anyway, of course she knows something they all want to know and she seduces them and they swear that they will get her the book (which was the stupidest thing they could’ve done, honestly. Julian, get your sht together, have you not learned anything.) Meanwhile, the Blackthorn children go to the London institute and whilst Kit, Ty and Livy are at the Shadow market a GREEN-SKINNED warlock helps them with their quest. Am I the only one who immediately though about Ragnor? Could he still be alive? Since Malcolm was raised from the dead as well, why can’t we do this with other warlocks as well? Speaking of warlocks: Their powers are slowly decreasing, and they tire more easily, which worries me so much. In the last chapter all I thought about was “Omg, please don’t let Magnus die, omg.” But she wouldn’t, would she? In the London institute there were so many hidden gems to find for people who have also read the TID series: the books with the J.H. or W.H. initials in the, or Jessamine protecting the institute. I loved Cassie for including these details. Emma and Julian meanwhile go to Malcom’s house near London and meet Annabelle there. She tricks them, and they burn down a church with their Parabatai bond, (because apparently that's what they can do now) which has grown stronger since they are both in love. They sleep with each other, and MAGNUS “how often do I have to witness this” BANE walks in on them. I loved that Cassie followed through with this little detail, too. There is this one scene where Emma and Julian joke about family motos, and it was the best thing ever. “If you don’t know your last name, it’s probably Herondale.” Ohh, how true indeed. Alec, Magnus and their two children Rafe and Max are in the London institute with the Blackthorns, and I just loved seeing their story intertwine with the TDA story. Alec’s discussion with Zara in the last chapter was pure gold, and it reminded me of how much I really loved Alec. Overall I can just say: I AM SO READY FOR THE NEXT BOOK IN THIS SERIES. So. ready.

!!!THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS!!! “Break my heart,” he said. “Break it in pieces. I give you permission.” Jules quote sums it up for me. I am giving Cassandra Clare my heart and permission to break it every single time I pick up her book and start reading. Since I picked up City of Bones I knew this author will be special to me and 10 years later, here I am and I don't regret a single minute reading her beautiful, heart breaking stories and losing myself in this wounderful world. So it's been a year since we all read Lady Midnight and had to deal with the cliffhanger, Mark saying "Why lie?". Until I started to read Lord of Shadows I thought "Oh boy, how will this evolve? Will they really fall in love and how will Julian react?" Thank God Cassie doesn't keep us hanging like some fish on a rod. We get pretty fast answers and see how Emma and Jules feel about each other: Still very much in love! We get a lot of scenes where they talk and clear their situation. Emma tells Julese that her relationship with Mark wasn't real and all made up so he could stop loving her. Jules tells Emma that there is nothing in this world what could make him stop loving her. But now what? They both know now there is the parabatai curse. They obviously (and please don't) want to get all crazy and destroy themselves and everyone around them but also they can't change how they feel about each other. So they follow Magnus suggestion to tell the Inquisitor and ask him for help. For me, this isn't a solution at all, but we will see how this turns out in Book 3. Then there is my precious Ty. I am so happy that we get to learn more about him. Kit points out to Julian that Ty has autism and that there is nothing wrong with Ty, he just is how he is and that isn't either a good or a bad thing. I love how Livvy, Ty and Kit develop a friendship. It feels so pure. Honestly, something everyone of us wishes for themselves. At least, I do. Kit was wondering why Ty was so desperate to have Kit in his life. After Ty told him he wants to solve crimes and need a Watson to his Holmes my heart melted and I wanted to hold Ty and hug him and tell him everything is going to be okay. Mark, Cristina and Kieran. I didn't saw this story coming my way. At first it was strange to see how they three seem to feel for each other ... something. But everyone in another way. One wants love, the other wants ... friendhip, I guess. It is a very unusual realtionship but at the end one about love, respect and honor. Putting everything aside and try to understand one another. Highlight for me was to see Clary and Jace in the beginning. Of course Jace had to meet his cousin. Clary talking to Emma and telling her her secret. By the angel, please don't let us see her vision coming true! I wouldn't survive that. An even bigger highlight was to have a LOT of Alec and Magnus in the book. I love that they were in charge to help the Blackthorns and that they did it out of friendship. However, I am starting to worry what Cassie is preparing us for. Magnus not feeling good? In fact, all Warlocks not feeling well for quite some time? Cassie, what do you want us to start preparing ourselves? And then, there is the last chapter. And when you thought you saw all the bad things already with Malcolm coming back for a short time and raising Annabel and the bad and good faeries... No. Cassie takes you and shows you what you really didn't expected and didn't want to read about it. So we got to the point that Annabel is willing to help the Blackthorns. What happens until then, you have to read the book! But as usual there are some idiots on the Council, Clave and around the trial that think they know better and Annabel, and somehow I understand her, gets scared. She is lots. After all those years of being death and not wishing to come back to life, she is and she can't deal with that at all. You can't blame her on that. But what she does ... because she is scared ... and lost ... I didn't saw this coming and it felt like a punch in my stomach! The Inquisitor dies. Stabbed by Annabel. Robert Lightwood, death. I am not morning his loss now but also, Emma and Jules. I mentioned before I am not a fan of their plan about trying to weaken the parabatai bond, but Robert promised them to help them! But what came next hurt so much more. Annabel kills Livvy. Cassie did it again! TMI Book 3, we have to see Max die. And now Livvy. I love the twins! And I know what Livvy means to Ty. He may have Kit as a friend now, his first friend outside the family, but Kit - no one - can replace his sister, his twin. No one will ever understand him like she did. The last page, Jules holding Livvy in his arms. Feeling how that what make her Livvy is gone. The clock chimes. The gate to Heaven opens. I'm a mess. I love it so much but I am a mess. ... and my biggest worry when I started to read was "Please don't seperate Emma and Jules!"

„Die dunklen Mächte“ – Trilogie setzt allerdings einige Jahre nach „City of Heavenly Fire“ an, weshalb man schon die „Chroniken der Unterwelt“ Reihe kennen sollte. Gelesen hat Simon Jäger die drei Bücher und ich bin immer noch hin und weg von seiner Stimme. Wahnsinnig gefühlvoll und spannend vorgetragen. In dieser Trilogie kommen viele bekannte Namen vor, wie Jace, Clary, Magnus, Alec, Simon, Isabell, …, die stillen Brüder und viele viele weitere. Selbst verständlich lernt man auch neue Menschen, Elfen und andere Wesen kennen, die viel Raum und Platz in den Büchern erhalten haben. Allen voran Emma und Julian, die Parabatais sind und plötzlich doch Gefühle für einander entdecken, die nicht erlaubt sind. Cassandra Clare schreibt hier wieder über viele Schicksale und Beziehungen, die außergewöhnlich sind. Ihre Bücher sind definitiv für die LGBTQ Community. Und das ist auch gut so. Sie hat endlich auch über eine Transgender – Frau geschrieben und das wirklich sehr schön. Ich mag ihre Vielfalt in dieser Hinsicht. Manche mögen behaupten, dass die Clare eintönig schreibt, oder nicht einmal schreiben kann. Doch das kann ich nicht unterschreiben. Im Gegenteil. Sie mag vielleicht eine einfache Art haben, doch die Themen die sie einbaut, sind alles andere als unwichtig. Noch nie habe ich eine Jugendbuch Autorin gelesen, die so konsequent an etwas festhält. In diesen Zeiten, wenn eine JK Rowling negativ auffällt und alle Trans-Frauen ihr Recht entziehen will, ist es wichtig, solche starken Bücher zu haben. Bücher, die den Jugendlichen das Gefühl vermitteln, dass alles gut wird – oder werden könnte. Das es wichtig ist, zu sich und seinen Gefühlen zu stehen. Zu sich als Persönlichkeit. Sie hat Vampir mit Schattenjägerin zusammen gebracht. Schattenjäger mit Hexenmeister, der Trans-Frau (ich verrate nicht ihren Namen) hat sie ein Happy End geschenkt. Das alles kann nur glaubhaft ‚rüberkommen, wenn man aufgeschlossen ist. Und auch zu dem Inhalt wirklich steht. In „Die dunklen Mächte“ wird gekämpft, geliebt, gelitten, geweint, gestritten. Freundschaften kommen, Freundeschaften gehen. Die Familie aber hält zusammen. Nur für einen hätte ich mir dann doch ein anderes Ende gewünscht. Ich musste weinen, lachen und habe mich gefreut. Auch hier haben Alexander Lightwood und Magnus Bane einige Auftritte zusammen, bezaubernde Szene, die mein Herz zum überlaufen gebracht haben. Die Blackthorns, um die es dieser Geschichte hauptsächlich geht, müssen einige Prüfungen überstehen. Prüfungen, die über alles hinausgehen. Julian insbesondere, der seit vielen Jahren das Los Angels Institut leitet, obwohl es eigentlich sein Onkel machen müsste – nachdem die Eltern beim großen Krieg ums Leben gekommen sind. Doch Arthur ist dazu nicht in der Lage, weshalb Julian schon als Jugendlicher mehr Verantwortung übernehmen musste, als manch ein anderer. Dabei ist er nicht mal der älteste der Kinder, doch Mark Blackthorn muss sich einem anderen Schicksal ergeben, während Helen Blackthorn verbannt worden war. Deshalb musste Julian die Rolle einnehmen, um nicht nur das Institut am Leben zu erhalten, sondern auch seine jüngeren Geschwister. Julian schlägt sich wirklich gut, wenn da nicht die Gefühle für Emma wären. Die Trilogie, die ich leider nur als Hörbuch habe, hat mir so unglaublich gut gefallen. Es sind unendlich viele Stunden gewesen, die ich mit der Familie Blackthorn und all den anderen verbracht habe, dass ich am Ende ein eigenartiges Gefühl verspürte. Ich würde jetzt mal behaupten, dass ich knapp 80 Stunden mit dem Hören der Trilogie verbracht habe – im Mai und Juni. Das ist wirklich echt viel. Es ist schwierig, eine Reihenfolge der Geschichte zu generieren, habe ich das Gefühl. Fragt man im Fandom, könnte es schon sein, dass man verschieden Antworten erhält. Vermutlich ist es das Beste, die Geschichten erst zu lesen, wenn man „Chroniken der Unterwelt“ kennt. Im Anschluss einfach mehr oder weniger auf das Erscheindungsdatum achten. Aber Achtung: Magnus Bane habe ich selbst nach dem vierten Buch gelesen, wenn ich mich jetzt nicht irre. Weil man sich sonst selbst spoilert, wenn man alles andere gelesen hat. Magnus Bane endet sehr frustrierend. Zu „Die roten Schriftrollen“ werde ich im nächsten Post etwas schreiben. Dieses Buch ist theoretisch auch nach Band vier angesetzt, laut Cassandra Clare. „Die dunklen Mächte“ ist meine neuen Lieblings – Trilogie.
