Actual rating: 2.5 stars I really liked the premise, considering that I’m currently staying near London as well. And as much as I love London and the UK in general, this book just had too many references to tube stations, British pop culture as well as food, the Royal family… all of this really put me off and gave me some cringe attacks. The author constantly used words such as ‘bitch’ or ‘slut’ to indicate that these female characters were ‘bad’. Also, Lucy introduced Freddie as her “gay bezzie mate”. Who talks like this?! What I was annoyed at the most were the characters. Not only was the main character, Alex, extremely passive when it came to her play being stolen by her so-called ‘nemesis’ Olivia but her friends weren’t any better and even encouraged her to stay silent. However, there was a line which made me laugh: “She stood out like an oreo cookie admist a jarful of Jammie Dodgers.”
