Welcome to the Centennial. Every 100 years, the island of Lightlark appears to host the Centennial, a deadly game that only the rulers of six realms are invited to play. The invitation is a summons—a call to embrace victory and ruin, baubles and blood.

The Centennial offers the six rulers one final chance to break the curses that have plagued their realms for centuries. Each ruler has something to hide. Each realm’s curse is uniquely wicked. To destroy the curses, one ruler must die.

To survive, Isla Crown must lie, cheat, and betray . . . even as love complicates everything.

I did anticipate where this was going but it was still rather enjoyable.

. (Spoilers ahead) The plot and world building was really good and interesting, the different isles and rulers seemed complicated at first but it actually worked like a symphony. However I felt sad about how the importance of characters seemed to shift constantly, the end was rather forseeable from the get go. Now let's address the fmc Isla. I fell in love with her from the start, something about her strong character and mind drew me to her. I was then very sad to figure out how weak and rather stupid she was portrayed most of the time. Easy things like the very obvious and clear possibility that her best friend was a liar apparently was way too impossible in her mind. Surely you could fault her emotions but she also constantly questioned her guardians and those she also had a strong bond to. In general her character had so darn much potential but it was slightly wasted. I really enjoyed that she ended up with Oro cause they had a lot of potential but I already smell an acomaf change for the next book. If that is the case, I'll be sad. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 3 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘀? ⭐ As mentioned before, the general clearity of the end and questionable actions and thoughts made me think of this book as okay and enjoyable but not truly something that wowed me. I might read the second one but I am unsure if it might be able to create that wow effect.
