Beschreibung

The Laconian Empire has fallen, setting the thirteen hundred solar systems free from the rule of Winston Duarte. But the ancient enemy that killed the gate builders is awake, and the war against our universe has begun again.

In the dead system of Adro, Elvi Okoye leads a desperate scientific mission to understand what the gate builders were and what destroyed them, even if it means compromising herself and the half-alien children who bear the weight of her investigation. Through the wide-flung systems of humanity, Colonel Aliana Tanaka hunts for Duarte’s missing daughter. . . and the shattered emperor himself. And on the Rocinante, James Holden and his crew struggle to build a future for humanity out of the shards and ruins of all that has come before.

As nearly unimaginable forces prepare to annihilate all human life, Holden and a group of unlikely allies discover a last, desperate chance to unite all of humanity, with the promise of a vast galactic civilization free from wars, factions, lies, and secrets if they win.

But the price of victory may be worse than the cost of defeat.

A fitting conclusion to an astonishing book series. Truly the GoT of sci-fi.

5

A stunningly beautiful conclusion in every way - 5/5 Nothing really could've convinced me after books 5,6 and 7 that this series would end so perfectly. But this somehow managed to top Tiamat's Wrath as the best book in the series. Going into this I had mixed feelings about how this might end, how a series with so many different viewpoint characters across all 9 books could wrap things up in a way that felt right and not incomplete. This was everything I could've hoped for and more. "You don't know. Until you have a kid, you won't. I will plant my flag on that one. The love of a parent for their kid is the last thing to go." In so many ways this book encompassed the full essence of The Expanse as a whole, and in my eyes was full to the brim with everything that was perfect about it from start to finish. "Nerving yourself up to kiss your big crush for the first time? Or getting pissed off because the apartment one over has a nicer view than yours? Playing with your grandbabies, or drinking beer with the assholes from work because going back to an empty house is too depressing? All the grimy, grubby bullshit that comes with being locked in your own head for a lifetime. That's the sacrifice. That's what you give up to get a place among the stars." Despite overall the characters not being as memorable or as realised and intimate as they started to feel they would be when I began this series, I have no doubts that the messages of the importance of change and the essence of humanity will stay with me forever, and while I feel like a reread of this is unlikely, I'm so glad that I decided to commit to finishing this. The Expanse is absolutely worth your time. THE EXPANSE: Overall - 39/45 Stars Leviathan Wakes - 4.5/5 Caliban's War - 4/5 Abaddon's Gate - 4.5/5 Cibola Burn - 4.75/5 Nemesis Games - 4/5 Babylon's Ashes - 3.5/5 Persepolis Rising - 3.75/5 Tiamat's Wrath - 5/5 Leviathan Falls - 5/5
