I can't believe I've finished this. I started reading the Riyria books in 2015 (chronologically) and fell in love with Royce and Hadrian immediately. I expected saying goodbye to be a bit more emotional though. Up until the first 600 pages, I've LOVED every bit of the book. Then the ending really fell short and I felt like too many loose ends were tried to be explained. Sadly, that didn't really work out that well and I don't know. I'm a bit sad :< Still 4 stars because it was an epic adventure nonetheless!
I became a fan of Michael J. Sullivan this week. Having read the first 4 books of the Riyria Revelations so far I really enjoy his style. He creates believable and interesting characters and drives the story ahead nicely. The world he created is rich in history and is very well thought out. It has all the makings of a great epic fantasy novel and I'm really excited about how it concludes.
Fantastic conclusion to the Riyria Revelations. This series was a lot of fun , one of the best I read for sure and I immensely enjoyed Michael J. Sullivans writing style. Everything got neatly tied up in the last two chapters and doesn't leave really any room to continue another story from there, but Sullivan just released a prequel with Hadrian's and Royce's early years, which means luckily more stories with these great characters. The only thing that nagged me about the series was the use of prophecies and fate. It's just one of these things I absolutely hate in fantasy books, characters acting to fulfill their destiny and no matter if they fail or succeed in it, in the end everything just happens to some plan. It's ridiculous in real life and annoying in fantasy, but that's just my personal preference. If you enjoy good old epic fantasy, with many great characters and a rich story in a beautiful world, this a must read for sure!
Read the separated german versions, but this series deserves to be worshipped in every format ;)
