I didn't always like the way it was written but otherwise "Labyrinth Lost" was cute, the story was nice, the characters well-developed, the magic and world-building interesting. I expected the romance to be cliche (not a bad thing in itself but I'm not a fan of the particular trope this book seemed to include) but my expectations were subverted (more than once) in a way that followed hints the story was littered with that I didn't dare to believe until they were confirmed, making it a realistic and coherent arc that I loved. I am a fan of the family theme this book catered to and the way it tied in with Alex's arc. This very much reads like a stand-alone but leaves a few smaller things open, that I hope and look forward to see unfurl in the coming two books.
