Ive always thought great things of Rebus mainly because most of my freinds have read the serries and really liked. Theyve always had really good things to say abut it but to be honest I found it a bit dull. It was brilliant that reading it I could picture all the places set in the book as its set in Edinburgh and I know it fairly well. just the story seemed to plod on and didnt have me hooked. When I read the synopsis I wasn't sure if I was going to like the material. Its about a killere who goes after preteen girls and strangles them. Thankfully it doesnt go into that much detail about the actual killings themselves but it is all about Rebus. and his job and his love life more than the actual murders which I think I was a bit disappointed in. On the other hand my husband said they get better as Ian Rankin writing progresses. You follow more of the murder rather than the man and he aalso pointed out you need to know the background of the main character if you are going to follow him through 20 odd books. So yeah. It was good but I wouldnt be recommending it to anyone soon. I was a little disappointed in it but will try and read the next few and see what we think.
