Six teenagers, all TikTok famous, one beach side mansion and 35 Million followers. They have too many sponsors, too much money for their age and they create content and film videos tiegther about their perfect lives. This is Lit Lair. But one of them turns up dead one day and suddenly nothing looks so perfect anymore. Especially, when everyone seems to have had a motive to take the content creator's life.
I had no expectations about a book focusing on social media stars and TikTok. However, I was positively surprised over the smooth story telling, even with so many different povs, the need to find out who had killed one of the characters and ending up being shocked with the reveal, because I didn't see it coming at all! Every character is flawed, they are bratty and some very spoiled, which was also entertaining to read about, because by the end they didn't have a full redemption arc, but one liked them more than would want to admit. The book focuses on more than just the glamour and murder, but more on the dark sides of fame, fast trends, public clouded opinion and how dangerous over sharing on the internet can become. The hopes and dreams some have to become famous or just recognized world wide. For some that can be reason enough to kill. I laughed more times than I can count, the dialogs and interests of the characters was funny and fast paced. But enough time to learn about each person's motivation and to root for some of them. That's why I would recommend to read this book by the poolside, hopefully with some floaties 😉, a cool drink and some sunnies.
