I had high expectations for this book. After all the title, cover and the blurb spoke of great things. However, it did not live up to my expectations. Not that it was a bad read, but it had the potential to be so much greater. It Seemed Like a Great Idea at the Time is the latest romance novel by Kylie Scott. It is a slow burn romance featuring an older hero (Pete) and younger heroine (Adele). The story is told solely from Adele's POV. Anyone familiar with my reviews knows I am a fan of this narration. It allows me to get inside the characters' heads and gain an understanding of their emotions and actions. The story moved between the past and the present, which allowed me to compare Adele's teenage and adult feelings. There was some level of growth, but sometimes her immaturity during her adult years shined through. I liked Adele, however I thought she was too easy on Pete. After the way he treated her, and his many rejections, she should have made him grovel. I guess it is true when they say love makes you do stupid things. I could not get a clue as to Pete's feelings as his voice is missing from the story. Pete ran hot and cold making it difficult to pin down his true feelings where Adele is concerned. Even when the story ended, I had a hard time accepting that what he felt was real. He struck me as someone who did not know what he wanted. A player who had no qualms about breaking a woman's heart, Adele's included. A veritable ass. His actions were not that of a forty-year-old man but more like a twenty-year-old boy. The chemistry between them was nonexistent. I never felt as there were any sparks between them and as such, I had a hard time relating to them as a couple. There were fun moments, which made me chuckle. Adele's way with words made for funny and interesting conversation. Conclusion/Recommendation Overall, this was an entertaining read, but it did not wow me as I had expected
