While I really like the beautiful, haunting and tragic plot, I didn't get on with the writing. First, it is very poetic and dramatic, which just isnt my preference. What really bothered me, though, is that the whole book is the literal interview, making it feel like a story being told to you instead of you actually witnessing the scenes. It damaged the immersion and made it feel more like these YouTube reviews were someone recaps the plot and comments on it than a novel. How the book depicts the conflicts and philosophical questions around vampires is great and must have been revolutionary for its time, but I prefer experiencing it through the movie.

I am convinced we never would have had Twilight if this book wasn't published. Anne Rice made vampire hot again after Dracula and her leaning into the queerness of vampirism just makes it even better. Even weirder to think about that she got rejected multiple times before finally getting Interview published and knowing the backstory of her writing the book after the death of her little daughter, nicknamed Claudia, really made it clear that she put her heart and soul into her work. Her writing reminded me of Shelly's Frankenstein. It's hauntingly beautiful and weird - in a good way! The story is interesting and the relationships between the characters even more so. The middle part dragged a bit and the ending felt rushed but at least I'll have more books in the series to look forward to. Also have to mention, I started watching the new 2022 AMC series after getting half-way through the book cause I got impatient and gotta say: I actually prefer the tv-version to the book, and that's coming from a snobbish "the-book-is-better-than-the-movie" reader that I am guilty of being. They really leaned into the best aspect of the novel - the gay love story between Loui and Lestat and made Loui a much more likable main character. To be fair to Anne Rice, it is clear that Loui is one extremely unreliable nerrator, there's so many holes in his story and I loved them leaning into that fact in the AMC show. Still, they're very faithful to the novel in my opinion and the acting is amazing. Also, random fact - I found out that the show Hannibal was inspired by Interview with the vampire and once you know that you can't unsee it. It's so funny to me for some reason. Has anyone read the Vampire chronicles or any other Anne Rice novels? Thinking I might give her Mayfair Witches series a go as well

After reading it for like three times I've finally noticed that this book is actual perfection.
