Beschreibung

Jake and his girlfriend are on a drive to visit his parents at their remote farm. After dinner at the family home, things begin to get worryingly strange. And when he leaves her stranded in a snowstorm at an abandoned high school later that night, what follows is a chilling exploration of psychological frailty and the limitations of reality. Iain Reid's intense, suspenseful debut novel will have readers' nerves jangling. A series of tiny clues sprinkled through the relentlessly paced narrative culminate in a haunting twist on the final page. Reminiscent of Michael Faber's Under the Skin, Stephen King's Misery and the novels of Jose Saramago, I'm Thinking of Ending Things is an astonishing and highly original literary thriller that grabs you from the start - and never lets go.

Confused. Scared. Intrigued. Not sure what I just read but I do know I liked what I read.

Sehr Poetisch!

Sehr Poetisch!

3.25/5 Brilliantly executed and written so atmospherically. It’s rare (for me) to read something that makes me feel like I am sitting on the edge of my seat. And I read it in a day or so, that is also a good sign. Somewhere in the middle of the book happens A Thing which led me to suspect Another Thing. And in the End it turned out to be true - this was so rewarding, but also kind of disappointing? I think I expected a somehow bigger twist in the end (i KNOW I shouldn’t, like, hype myself up for things), but it was in the end “excused” with an open but still clear cut end and a “mental-illness-plot-device” (which is like 50% the bibliography of Sebastian Fitzek, a german author. And sidenote nation: There is a German young/new adult thriller called 'Der Scherbensammler' I read ages ago which has basically the same/a similar plot but more “fluffy” and fitting for 14-year-olds). But still, the atmospheric language, the feeling of uneasiness especially when the two characters are on the road and the brilliantly sparse settings made me enjoy this book a lot!

Unglaublich spannendes Buch für kalte Wintertage.

o_O On an immediate reread I know it’s an all time favorite. I’m obsessed and upset. The way this story pieces itself together in a completely different way after knowing the ending is incredible. There are so many details and scenes that just hit different. The themes that it’s actually talking about broke me on this reread and now I hate thinking about this book cause it makes me sad. It fills me with a very unique kind of dread.

Verwirrend

Eerie, mysterious, psychological, twisted yet philosophical. Wow.

What a weird book!

I honestly have no clue how to describe what I felt and thought while reading this book. Had I not done much on the day I started reading this, I would have finished it in one go. It was that interesting. What can I say. I had a lot of theories. Especially when weird things were happening. Like her getting calls and voice messages from herself. The question she asks Jake that are never answered. A picture of her in the house. Some times it feels like she was never there, like she is a ghost or something. The end cleared it up. But they led to more questions. I do not even remember her name. And how were the intimate parts?

Okay I don’t know what to say about this one! The book was good, the movie was good too but it was pretty weird. It wasn’t scary but it was pretty damn weird and left me speechless. Gonna tag this as the weirdest book I have read this year and probably ever have read in my life!

5

I have no idea what is going on and everything’s confusing, but I love it! Highly recommend the Audiobook

this book is weirdly comforting to read after a breakup
