endlich raus aus meiner leseflaute - danke! ich war von der ersten bis zur letzten seite gefesselt, hatte viele ahnungen, die sich allesamt nicht bewahrheitet haben und kann dieses buch jedem, der auf mystery(thriller) steht, nur empfehlen! ich habe es selbst ohne vorwarnung und inhaltsangabe gelesen, daher will ich hier auch gar nichts weiter schreiben, aber glaubt mir: das ist definitiv mal etwas anderes!
Spannende Geschichte mit nem guten Plot. Und diese Bilder wahnsinnig gut.

Bei dem Start hätte ich nie diesen Ausgang erwartet! Eine junge Frau, die mit einem Sommerjob einen Neuanfang wagen will. Ein Haus, dass voll Geheimnisse ist. Und dann diese eine Sache, die mich schon auf Seite 7 das Buch weglegen lassen hat . Aus Angst. Aber auch nur, weil ich bei dieser Sache empfindlich bin. Mit The Ring und Poltergeist kann man mich jagen. Aber dieses Buch ist noch so viel mehr. Viele Zeichnungen, dramatische Hintergrundgeschichten. All die Überraschungen, all die Gänsehaut hat mich dranbleiben lassen. Ich wusste nicht, ob ich allen Protas trauen kann. Gut, dass ich da vorsichtig war... So gut geschrieben - kann das nächste Buch von ihm kaum erwarten!
Dieses Buch übertrifft alle Erwartungen. Die Vorgeschichte von Mallory ist gut gewählt, sie passt gut in den Verlauf. Die Protagonisten haben ihre Rolle perfekt wiedergegeben. Tatsächlich weiß man nicht, wem man trauen kann und wie es enden wird. Tatsächlich sind die Twists super getimed und spektakulär. Ich tappte völlig im dunkeln und hätte den Ablauf inklusive Ende so nicht erwartet. Ein wahnsinnig tolles Leseerlebnis. Es entsteht eine sehr mystisch angehauchte Atmosphäre, welche den Leser auf „Hab Acht Stellung“ gehen lässt. Es ist nicht gruselig oder horrormäßig, aber durch die enthaltenen Zeichnungen -die wahnsinnig gut gelungen sind- wird die Atmosphäre aber doch immer beklemmender.
Plot twists, mit denen ich nie gerechnet hätte!
Die meiste Zeit des Buches war ich auf dem Holzweg. Deshalb haben mich die (relativ vielen) plot Twists am Ende sehr überrascht. Es ist weniger ein Thriller, als ein Mystery Thriller, weil es eine übernatürliche Komponente gibt. Aber ich fand alle Charaktere so gut dargestellt, sodass ich richtig in der Handlung gefesselt war. Die Bilder zwischen drin haben alles nochmal aufgewertet. Insgesamt eine sehr spannende Geschichte mit einem Ende, wie ich es mir gewünscht habe!
Mallory Quinn is fresh out of rehab when she takes a job as a babysitter for Ted and Caroline Maxwell. She is to look after their five-year-old son, Teddy. Mallory immediately loves it. She has her own living space, goes out for nightly runs, and has the stability she craves. And she sincerely bonds with Teddy, a sweet, shy boy who is never without his sketchbook and pencil. His drawings are the usual fare: trees, rabbits, balloons. But one day, he draws something different: a man in a forest, dragging a woman's lifeless body. Then, Teddy's artwork becomes increasingly sinister, and his stick figures quickly evolve into lifelike sketches well beyond the ability of any five-year-old. Mallory begins to wonder if these are glimpses of a long-unsolved murder, perhaps relayed by a supernatural force. Knowing just how crazy it all sounds, Mallory nevertheless sets out to decipher the images and save Tedd before it's too late.
Okayyy so to be honest I’m just speechless right now. I haven’t read a Mystery/Thriller Book for so long now because the last ones I read disappointed me so I was scared to read one again😭. So I didn’t have many expectations but this book completely shocked me. This review has spoilers‼️ I liked the writing style and I LOVED the illustrations😍. We have Mallory Quinn, a 21-year-old survivor with a tragic past and a history of addiction. After 18 months of sobriety she gets a summer job with help from her sponsor Russell. A nanny job to look after 5-year-old Teddy, son of Caroline Maxwell and Ted Maxwell. The Maxwells are atheists and strong believers of science and have prepared a list of rules for Mallory to follow which includes for example no drug use, fooling around and not to mention religion matters. After a while, strange sounds coming from the guest house where she lives and the feeling of being watched leaves her anxious. When she finds out that a woman may have been killed in that same cottage, her anxiety gets bigger. At the same time, Teddy keeps talking with his imaginary friend behind closed doors in his room, Anya. He even draws disturbing pictures showing Anya being dragged into the woods and being buried in a hole. After a while, the drawings become even more disturbing and detailed which a 5-year-old couldn’t possibly have done. Mallory’s neighbor, Mitzi, that believes in spiritual things, warns her that a spirit may be using Teddy. Honestly, so much was happening and I just didn’t wanna stop reading. That plot twist was definitely something and I already thought that the Maxwells definitely had SOMETHING to do with it but for it to be this crazy was honestly unexpected😭. Mitzi dying?! Caroline killing Mitzi and trying to kill Mallory with the same injection?! Ted basically saving her since he swapped the powder with baby powder and trying to run away with her and admitting the love/attraction that he feels for her?! Caroline shooting him and Mallory trying to save Teddy while also saving herself and just running away. Anya aka Margot,her real name possessing Teddys body to stab/kill Caroline with an arrow in the neck and Mallory trying to save him😭 omfg so much was happening my brain is still processing it to be honest. So the maxwells did. in fact have something to do with the whole Anya case. Her real name was Margot and she was killed by Caroline and buried by Ted. She was basically jealous because Margot didn’t 'look after her daughter well' while painting. Because yes, Teddy is in fact a girl and her real name is flora, the name of Margot’s daughter! Poof! Plot twist after plot twist😭. Ted and Caroline stole Flora and changed her whole identity to cover up their crimes and going from one place to another. At the epilogue later, we discover that Adrian and Mallory are married, which made me really happy cause they go well together🫶🏻. Floras real father took her in and looks after her and the end just honestly made me happy but sad. Mallory wrote a book for Flora with the whole truth in it and Mallory’s realization that she won’t see Flora again because Flora's trying to forget her (because of Trauma etc) and rather distancing herself, having other interests and stuff like that but running up at the last minute to give Mallory a hug and give her one last drawing of them together, smiling🥹. Some tears nearly fell im not gonna lie🥲. Overall, I loved it !! Would definitely recommend even though I normally don’t really read much about ‚spirit stuff' etc.
Extrem heftig.
Besonders im ersten Drittel des Buches war es unglaublich gruselig. Die Bilder waren echt passend und machten einen wirklich Angst. Trotzdem hatte ich immer wieder das Bedürfnis weiter zu lesen. Mir war es gut möglich, mich in die Geschichte von Mallory einzufühlen und ich konnte das Buch gar nicht mehr weg legen! Wirklich eine mega spannende Geschichte mit einem Plot-Twist, den man auf keinen Fall erwartet!!

Das Ende hat mich wirklich umgehauen und nie im Leben hätte ich damit gerechnet. Ein wirklicher Page-Turner und in wenigen Stunden gelesen.. Ich konnte einfach nicht aufhören 🫣 Der paranormale Anteil ist auf jeden Fall eher gering und „unspektakulär“ gehalten, auf jeden Fall für meine Verhältnisse zu wenig um „Horror“ zu sein. Nichts desto trotz ein wirklich guter Mysterie Thriller.
Ganz anders als erwartet
Ich habe einen "gewöhnlichen" Thriller erwartet und etwas ganz anderes bekommen. Das Ende war etwas überraschend, damit habe ich nicht gerechnet, was mir ganz gut gefallen hat. Aber die eigentliche Essenz des Buches und einige Handlungsstränge haben mir nicht so gut gefallen.
