Avi x Zane

More like 3,25☆ cause I liked it more than volume 2. I really liked the beginning and the dynamic, but I also have a lot to complain about, mainly things being cringe 😅 So, we finally reached the twins, starting with Asa. He meets Zane, who is a wannabe reporter (crime blogger) and kinda onto them. Trying to get prove that the Mulvanys have something shady going on, he has a one-night-stand with Asa in hopes of getting some details. We'll, let's just say he saw more than he was expecting 👀 So, Asa has to put him under house arrest until he can convince him they aren't just killing mindlessly. Simultaneously, Asa gets the mission to investigate a series of suicides. One of the victims being Zanes brother. So, they work together on this, also while Asa has to deal with being separated from his twin Avi, but Zane is a good distraction 😏 So, the story was really interesting, and I enjoyed the beginning because Zane was really mad at Asa being a murderer. I was like, "Great, no insta-love again." Well, I spoke too soon 🙃 Zane is convinced pretty quickly about the necessity of their vigilante action and also of Asa. They are already talking about forever again, after one fucking day! 🫠 The pinnacle of this was Asa thinking Zane is more important than his brother, wtf! "Avi was the most important person in his life, but what he had with Zane was so much more." Excuse me, you've known him for a day 😭 At least Asa feels a bit more scary than the others, but really just a bit. Those psychopaths are not convincing 😅 This brings me to another thing that is not convincing me, the increase in "BDSM" and the smut. Since volume two, there were mentions of this and often a dom/sub dynamic. It worked for me in vol. 3 and generally here as well in terms of the dynamic, but we hardly see anything really BDSM (roleplay is only mentioned, not shown, and otherwise just getting tied/cuffed to something) or, as is always mentioned, "depraved," etc. Yes, they have really rough sex (biting etc.), but the way they talk about it, you kinda expect something more hardcore 😅 And then the worst was the growling/snarling, again 😩 You aren't a werewolf, stop it! They really pushed it with the animalistic stuff. I am not generally against it, but a lot of it was just too cringy for me 😅 Then, about some supernatural (?) stuff. The twins (of course) had this kinda telepathic connection. They could literally feel what the other felt, a state away. A bit over the top, but I didn't mind. What was weird to me, though, was Zane literally talking to his dead brother in his head 😅 Otherwise I enjoyed all the family scenes again. We even saw Dimitri and Arlo again (well, the scene from vol 3.5 was here as well, and then a bit more). I am curious how much we will see from Asa and Zane in the next volume as well because they live together with Avi (and soon Felix as well, I guess 🤭). Really hope that book is better. Not that I didn't like this one, but I mostly like it because of the whole series, and still had much to complain. That reminds me, there was still one thing I didn't like, Asas nickname for Zane: Lois Lane. Not because of the name itself (I actually don't know that character), but because he used it constantly! I can't remember a single time he called him Zane. His name might as well just have been Lois 🥲 Well, enough complaining, onto the next one.
