Beschreibung

The New York Times bestselling Arc of the Scythe series continues with “captivating…thrilling” (School Library Journal) stories that span the timeline. Storylines continue. Origin stories are revealed. And new Scythes emerge!

There are still countless tales of the Scythedom to tell. Centuries passed between the Thunderhead cradling humanity and Scythe Goddard trying to turn it upside down. For years, humans lived in a world without hunger, disease, or death with Scythes as the living instruments of population control.

Neal Shusterman—along with collaborators David Yoon, Jarrod Shusterman, Sofía Lapuente, Michael H. Payne, Michelle Knowlden, and Joelle Shusterman—returns to the world throughout the timeline of the Arc of a Scythe series. Discover secrets and histories of characters you’ve followed for three volumes and meet new heroes, new foes, and some figures in between.

Gleanings shows just how expansive, terrifying, and thrilling the world that began with the Printz Honor–winning Scythe truly is.

Oh jaaa!

All I can say is: You guys… Neal Shusterman has done it again! The ‘Arc of Scythe’ universe is perhaps one of the most entertaining fictional worlds to busy yourself with. I would honestly put it up there with such other favorites of mine as ‘Guild of the Black Magicians’ by Trudi Canavan or A Song of Ice and Fire by GRRM. Well, at least to me it is, because this book series pretty much single handedly ended what you could call a years long reading slump. So, how great is it that we get a collection of short stories, spanning from the streets of old Barcelona to the Arctic, to a colony on Mars and even the world of Communal dreaming?! For the biggest part of this book I was convinced it would be a solid 5 stars from me, no questions asked. However, while some of these stories deliver gut-punch after gut-punch in the usual scythe-typical surgical precision, some others were entertaining, but felt more like filler to buff this book up by another 100 pages. I can forgive that, considering Neal Shusterman& Co gave me so many more stories that will stick with me for a looong time. Some outshining stuff to mention, in no particular order; This author doesn’t fuck around whenever he serves criticism about something going on in the real world, however rare it might be. Let me just remind you of that amazing bit about Wall-building along a certain Northern American border in the last book. Without spoiling too much, you have something similar to look forward to with one of the short stories in ‚Arc of Scythe‘. Another all time favorite, of course: narrow-minded, petty and cruel Scythes getting served with this little thing we like to call ‘consequences’. And my clear favourite: The story of the last day of the Mortal Age, aka further exploring the idea of meaningful art being impossible to create in an immortal world, and thereby asking what does „life“ mean in a world were death, for most people, just doesn’t exist? I don‘t know if you can tell, but this short stories has short-circuited and rewired some parts of my brain.

I was betting exited when the news dropped about another book in this universe. I didn’t care about what it was or when it would play. I just wanted/needed more! And more I got. While it took me a while to read this, I am so pleased and loved it with all my heart. This collection of short stories involves almost always a scythe and plays throughout the years that they were needed. Per usual, they were thought provoking pieces leaving you with a lot to consider. I especially enjoyed that we got to know a bit about what happened after the third book in the trilogy. It was enlightening and just made sense for the world that the author build. This definitely send me on an emotional roller coaster. I was so fed up with some of these people, but Neal knew what he was doing for sure! The plot twists were so out of the left field and yet absolutely on par, I sometimes laughed out loud. A great book and even greater audiobook.

i was initially so excited for this book, but i'm not sure whether i should read it anymore.. it's probably unrealistic for me to expect this to make up for the hell i endured reading the toll

A wonderful collection of stories from the Scythe universe. A diverse collection of timelines, characters and tellings - all somehow still connected. Some familiar names, some spoken about stories from the main books and some new stories give an interesting insight into Neal Shustermans distopian world.
