2,5 ⭐ Eh, a little let down compared to book 1, [b:Storm Front|47212|Storm Front (The Dresden Files, #1)|Jim Butcher|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1572991273l/47212._SY75_.jpg|1137060]. It was fine - pulpy and fun. The middle part was the weakest part in the book in my opinion. It was action scene after action scene, which - don't get me wrong here - makes a fast and quick read, but at the same time was... a little boring
On the surface of things the Dresden Files are pulpy urban fantasy novels, but having just finished this, the second in the series I'm begining to understand why others rave about them. The world building is quite incredible, especially given I hear it just gets better from here!
Just such an enjoyable read. I love harry. I just relate to him so much and there was a section of maybe 100 pages or so where i felt so much empathy and connection to him that i really don't think i've ever felt towards any character ever. Another great book in this series, can't wait to see what the next book brings. I may post a full review at a later date, but i feel like much of what i said about Storm Front also applies to this book, and so i won't bother to say the same things over again unless I feel like i have something else worthwhile to say. DRESDEN FILES: Storm Front: 5/5 stars Fool Moon: 5/5 stars **note** I do understand it seems like i'm just going to rate everything 5 stars at this point, but i can confirm that if the quality of the series stays as it is currently, the ratings probably will drop simply because they wouldn't be adding anything or providing much in the way of establishing character or setting like these two have. Overall though, fantastic read, by no means a masterpiece, but certainly a great story and a very enjoyable book.
The second entry of The Dresden Files was more enjoyable than the first. This might come as a surprise to a lot of readers, since it's known to be one of (if not the) weakest entry of the series. But somehow, although it obviously still has its faults, this jumble of a story about werewolves, gangs and demons was more engaging that the last. Fool Moon is known for it's vicious action scenes and those it delivered. It felt as though nearly the last third or so was one big action sequence that did not want to stop, nor should it have, and I am glad for it. But just like in Stormfront, the plot loses focus around the middle, and meanders a lot. And Harry, oh Harry, why do you have to be so tight-lipped with your knowledge, especially around people you trust? This is used as a plot device to ensure conflict where there should not have been any in the first place, if people just talked, and would not assume so much. (I am looking at you Murphy) But what made this book rise above Stormfront, was not the action, but the quiet moments and reveals that hint at a quite promising future for Harry Copperfield Blackstone Dresden and the city of Chicago. 3,5/5,0
