"Magical botanists had a connection with plants, and that connection was somehow both supernatural and scientific." 🌿✨🔬
Cozy, magical and relaxing!
Had I read this when I was 15 it would have become my whole personality. ____________ I got interested because of the cover, but stayed because absolutely fell in love with the story. I didn't know this author when I started the audio book, so I didn't have any expectations. I just finished my previous read and wanted something cozy without having to read ten pages of dictionary to get what's going on. And honestly: This was the perfect pick. I was immediately able to sink into the story and finished it in ONE setting. Just what I needed – and now I need more! Not that the world building was flat - on the contrary: Heather Schneider managed to walk us through this new, complex and unusual magic system with ease. Not once did I feel left behind. The pacing was wonderful and I expected floating light bulbs all around me the entire time (Yes, it's that enchanting and magical) The characters were thought through and relatable and finally a story without jealous classmates! You'll love this book if you like: Cozy Fantasy Academic Settings (Really) Slow Burn Intriguing, detailed Magic System Sweet MMC with dark hair and tattoos In this cozy adventure we meet Briar, a local collage student who plans to major in arts. After the death of her mother she now lives with her aunt and helps her out in her bakery in order to pay for her collage fees. How lucky that one of her professors accidentally sees her art and proposes for her to join a different kind of school – the mystical and secretive Evergreen Academy, in which only gifted pupils are allowed to study. But in order to join this elite school she has to have magic in her. The more Briar gets tested though the more uncertain about her right to attend she gets. What if she doesn't have powers at all? What if she odesn't manage to fulfill all these expectations? And who is this handsome stranger that sends her messages with the wind? I really, really enjoyed the start of this series and will definitely be reading the rest of the series. This is such a wonderful read and I will be buying myself a physical copy of it. The audio narrator Jesse Vilinsky did an absolutely amazing job voicing this book and had me hooked from the first minute! If you are able, I would advice to listen to the audiobook also! I promise you won't regret it! Lastly I would like to thank NetGalley for providing me with the audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
