Unterhaltsam. Spannend. Abstoßend.

Spannende Charakterstudie.

This was a wild ride. The story was really twisted and weird, but it still fascinated me all the way through.

It's summer and I love my dad so... couldn't relate.

i will definitely remember this book for a long, long time. it was very disturbing and unsettling, sometimes disgusting, always fascinating. while it had a slower first half, the second half was super gripping - and all in all, it was also a fun book. eileen was such a different narrator and i loved the perspective chosen for this book - the main character looking back at a short time in her life from a totally different position. i was always reminded that she was so different 'now' but at the same time, i couldn't trust her. there isn't much to eileen's story. her life is very sad and dull. everything is cold and grey, she basically hates everything, especially herself. still, the story of her disappearance was entertaining and the ending was like a gunshot. i loved the twist a lot even though there could have been a bit...more. i would've liked to learn a bit more about rebecca and her motivations, for example. also this book needs some trigger warnings! there's several mentions of rape (never on page), negative body image and food habits, severe self hatred and self harm, and many different forms of abuse. eileen is a good book but a very negative one. it's not for everyone - it hits you, though. and i personally just enjoyed it a lot.
