Diesels Buch ist ein absolutes Meisterwerk und lässt einen Sprachlos zurück.
Ich hatte mich sehr gefreut, als ich sah, dass meine Bib dieses Ebook angeboten hat. Dabei hätte ich allerdings nicht erwartet, dass es mich so in den Bann zieht. Ich habe lange kein sooo gutes Buch mehr gelesen. Alles an diesem Buch war einfach unglaublich. Die komplette Schreibweise, der Plot-Twist, die Charaktere, die Atmosphäre vor allem. Ich habe jede Sekunde dieses Buches geliebt. Es hat mich gegruselt, es hat mich zum Lächeln gebracht, und es hätte mich zum weinen gebracht, wenn ich das Ende nicht auf arbeit gelesen hätte. Da habe ich meine Tränen lieber zurückgehalten. Dieses Ende hat mich sprachlos und auf eine gewisse Weise leer zurückgelassen. Einfach eine erstaunliche und auch mal ein komplett andere Geschichte, als das was ich sonst lese.

Andrew schreibt verrückte Märchen und sein bester Freund Thomas erweckt sie mit seinen schönen und gruseligen Illustrationen zum Leben. Da seine Zwillingsschwester Dove, Andrew zu Beginn des Schuljahres auf unerklärliche Weise auf Distanz hält, hängt Andrew umso mehr an Thomas. Doch mit Thomas stimmt etwas nicht - seine Eltern sind verschwunden, er wird mit Blut an den Ärmeln aufgefunden und verhält sich komisch. Andrew folgt Thomas eines Nachts in den Wald, der nicht betreten werden darf, und findet Thomas im Kampf mit einem Waldmonster. Seine Zeichnungen werden lebendig. Jede Nacht kämpfen die Jungen im Wald gegen Monster, um alle zu retten. Bei ihren Kämpfen kommen sie sich immer näher, aber Andrew befürchtet, dass sie nur aufgehalten werden können, wenn sie ihren Schöpfer töten. Zunächst einmal ist der Schreibstil in diesem Buch gespenstisch schön und verstörend. Ich liebe Waldmagie, Bodyhorror, Waldhorror - alles, was mit dem Wald zu tun hat und unheimlich ist - und dieses Buch ist voll davon! Außerdem ist die Geschichte an sich schon gut! Und man muss sich auf einige Wendungen gefasst machen! Manche habe ich zum Beispiel gar nicht kommen sehen. Es ist sehr unheimlich und eindringlich und handelt von Trauer, Beziehungen und Monstern in uns und um uns herum. Die Asexuelle Repräsentation wird immer wieder erwähnt und auf den Seite diskutiert was ich wirklich gut fand. Das Ende war spektakulär, ich bin immer noch etwas verwirrt, aber nicht im negativen Sinne. Andrew writes crazy fairy tales and his best friend Thomas brings them to life with his beautiful and creepy illustrations. As his twin sister, Dove, inexplicably keeps Andrew at a distance at the beginning of the school year, Andrew becomes even more attached to Thomas. But something is wrong with Thomas - his parents have disappeared, he is found with blood on his sleeves and is behaving strangely. One night, Andrew follows Thomas into the forest, which is forbidden to enter, and finds Thomas fighting a forest monster. His drawings come to life. Every night, the boys fight monsters in the forest to save everyone. As they fight, they grow closer and closer, but Andrew fears that the only way to stop them is to kill their creator. Firstly, the writing style in this book is hauntingly beautiful and disturbing. I love forest magic, body horror, forest horror - anything to do with the forest that is spooky - and this book is full of it! Plus, the story itself is good! And you have to be prepared for some twists and turns! Some, for example, I didn't even see coming. It's very creepy and haunting and deals with grief, relationships and monsters within us and around us. Asexual representation is mentioned again and again and discussed on the page which I really liked. The ending was spectacular, I'm still a little confused but not in a bad way. It really was a highlight and is now one of my favourite books 💚🍄🍂
Masterpiece
Normally, I avoid horror books. But this book ... it was a masterpiece. I really can't do this story justice with words alone so please go read it for yourself
“it hadn’t hurt, the day he had cut out his own heart.” the way this story made me feel is beyond any words. the idea that drawings are coming to life to kill their creator and anyone close is such a unique idea. i was hooked from the very beginning, trying to piece together what was actually going on. all the metaphors and atmosphere of this book was immaculate. i loved every minute of this story, especially Thomas and Andrew’s banter. literally had me giggling while reading. the fact that everything is so detailed, the academy and the monsters, made this book that much better. the chemistry between Thomas and Andrew literally had me screaming waiting for the confession. when i got to the twist my jaw hit the ground, i was totally not expecting that. this book went above and beyond all my expectations, although the ending wasn’t my favorite because i wanted more, i’m gonna hype this book up for the rest of my life.
this is definitely one of my favorite books now. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️+
“if you cut open my chest”—andrew’s voice was wrecked—“you’ll find a garden of rot where my heart would be.” thomas tilted his head up, and the way he looked at andrew was so tender and fierce. so full of fearless workship. “i don’t care how dark the world is for you. i’ll hold out my hand until you find it, and i won’t let go.” ~~ i kinda regret reading this book in the span of 12 hours, but i would do it again. this was a emotional rollercoaster but i’d do it again. the story of andrew and thomas is so unique and beautiful that i cried multiple times throughout the book. (and also questioned my life multiple times throughout the book). this scratched an itch in my brain, i didn’t know was there. dare i say this even healed my tsoa heartbreak? —> don’t go into this book prepared for a romance, because it not; andrew is asexual. it’s more of a YA horror book with a romantic subplot. BUT be prepared to wanting to hug a tree after you read this book.
Reading this was a mistake because how am I supposed to find another book that‘s exactly like this but different

Was für ein wahnsinnig gutes Buch! CG Drews queerer YA Horror Roman ist mir unter die Haut gefahren und hat mich am Ende mit einem blutenden Herz zurück gelassen. Drews hat eine so düstere, geradezu beklemmde Atmosphäre geschaffen und den Schmerz der Protagonisten unglaublich gut beschrieben. Wortgewand und eindringlich, erzählt they die Geschichte von einem Jungen, der sein Herz verschenkt hat. Von Andrews, einem zerbrechlichen Außenseiter an einem Elite-Internat. Alles was er hat, sind seine Schwester Dove, seinen bester Freund Thomas und seine Geschichten. Doch als das neue Schuljahr beginnt, ist seine Schwester kaum noch für ihn da und Thomas verhält sich merkwürdig. Als Andrew ihm nach einem Streit in den Wald folgt, trifft er auf eine dunkle Welt voll Monster: Die Zeichnungen von Thomas sind lebendig geworden und bedrohen das Internat. Gemeinsam versuchen die beiden Jungen Nacht für Nacht die Monster zu besiegen. Doch wie lange können sie die Schmerzen noch ertragen, die diese Alptraumgestalten mit sich bringen? Lest dieses Buch! Es ist einfach so gut, auch wenn es mich sehr mitgenommen hat. (Mein Mann durfte sich mein ganzes Leid beim Lesen anhören.) Abgesehen von dem tollen Schreibstil und der Story, ist das Buch auch lesenswert, da es mit Andrew auch einen asexuellen Protagonisten repräsentiert, was es viel zu selten in Büchern gibt. Ich fand die Gedanken hierzu sehr spannend, auch mit welchen Problemen Andrew zu kämpfen hat. OK, jetzt geht, holt euch das Buch und lest es.

this book took me to a whole new world of monsters and alive forests. While reading i felt this tension all the time, never knowing whats happening next. The story is so beautiful but heart breaking at the same time. i never read anything like it before. the idea of drawings coming to life and having to fight the monsters created while battling their own inner demons. it was a roller coaster of emotions. i was giggling about andrews and thomas banter, then my heart was breaking for andrew and i was angry when thomas was angry. the plot twist at the end made me stand up and pace my room because i couldnt believe what i was reading. and then there was the last to pages where i had to sit down and take a deep breath. I am now staring at a wall for 30 minutes. All in all i loved this book through all its pages and hopefully will someday read it again❤️
Eine wunderschön schreckliche Liebesgeschichte
Andrew und Thomas beginnen ihr letztes Schuljahr an der Wickwood Academy, ein Internat für die Kinder reicher Eltern, welches sie nur über die Sommerferien verlassen. Doch als sie zurückkehren, erwarten die Beiden dunkle Probleme. Der Wald vor der Schule, der früher ihre Zuflucht war, ist ein gefährlicher Ort geworden. Die Liebesgeschichte zwischen den Beiden bahnt sich sehr langsam an. Wer hier Spice erwartet wird enttäuscht, da einer der Protagonisten asexuell ist - das Verlangen und die Liebe zwischen dem Duo wird durch ihre Taten und Opfer jedoch viel deutlicher, als es durch 🌶-Szenen je hätte werden können. Der Plottwist hat mich mit vielen Fragezeichen zurückgelassen, auch wenn ich ihn an einigen Stellen schon erahnen konnte. Auch das Ende ist relativ offen geschrieben und mehrdeutig. Einen halben Stern Abzug habe ich gegeben, da die Beziehung zwischen Andrew und Thomas mir teilweise ZU abhängig war. Andrew kann in der Welt kaum alleine existieren und verlässt sich bei seinen mentalen Problemen sehr stark auf Thomas. (TW: hier geht es oft um Essstörungen, Panikattacken und soziale Angst.) Vielleicht liegt das aber auch an meiner Vorliebe für starke Protagonisten. Abschließend kann ich nur sagen: Was für eine schrecklich schöne Geschichte.
I was really looking forward to reading it but unfortunately I couldn't get into it. I loved the writing a lot though! I just couldn't connect to any of the characters and the horror elements didn't convince me either. I loved the queer representation and that the main character was asexual. At least he was supposed to be asexual but the exploration of it was off. The author made it sound like aromanticism and asexuality are the same thing which bothered me a lot. Despite all that I finished the book but it's not a story that I will remember.
I would sell my soul to read this book for the first time again As soon as you think you know where the plot is going, something happens and you know nothing again. It's just wow Also I am pretty sure I hallucinated the entire ending after my first read, because dafuq? The ending is craaazy. My friend and I debated for hours, how it should be interpreted and what really happened, and... Yeah. This book is just wow

This book was exactly what I wanted from it and it even exceeded my expectations. It was dark, lyrical, queer af and the characters were so interesting and loveable. This book presents my favourite genre perfectly! <3✨
