I'm not quite sure about this book. It deals with a group of soldiers stationed in Afghanistan. The first part shows the life of the soldiers at the Forward Operating Base. It becomes evident that they try to distract themselves from the waiting, boredom and loneliness at the camp. The second part shows an operation for which they are firstly excited about but illustrates the horror of war. Nothing stays the same. Giordano reveals the life of soldiers in an unprettified way. Whether it's alcohol, sex or psychotropic drugs, everyone is drawn by the horror of war and seeks for distractions. The author places a zite first from Remarques [b:All Quiet on the Western Front|355697|All Quiet on the Western Front|Erich Maria Remarque|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1441227765s/355697.jpg|2662852] which shows the life of soldiers in World War I. By aligning his book with Remarques he introduces the topics but looses the comparison. I miss the depth of characters and their dealing with variety of problems. whereas Giordano describes the daily life of soldiers quite well, after the incident he wraps up the story soon. The soldiers return home and have to deal with their private life.
