At long last, a final reckoning is coming for Frieda Klein...

On a north London high street, a runaway vehicle crashes to a halt. The man in the driving seat was murdered a week earlier.

On Hampstead Heath, a bonfire blazes: in the flames lies the next victim.

As autumn leaves fall, a serial killer runs amok in the capital, playing games with the police. The death toll is rising fast, and the investigation is floundering.

But this is no ordinary killer, and every new victim is intended as a message to just one woman.

Because psychologist Frieda Klein is in hiding. And someone is coming to find her . . .

Not my jam

I apologise if this comes across as snarky, I‘m very tired and want to go to bed. I got this book YEARS ago when I was in my thriller phase and only now finally got around to reading it. Today, I discovered three things: 1: I am not a thriller girly anymore. I think a lot of thrillers are repetitive and predictable. 2: I can tolerate thrillers if the protagonists don’t get absolutely traumatised during them just for the sake of drama and entertainment. This, unfortunately, does not fall in this category of tolerable thrillers. 3: this is part 8 of a series and I have not read any of the other parts. That‘s on me though. However, I have a feeling I would not have liked the series because it reads like Frieda experiences a lot of horrible things in the other books that I don’t necessarily want to read about (see discovery no. 2). Also, even though I did not know the killer and his backstory, I was able to identify him the first time he appeared on page. Literally. I shudder to imagine how predictable this would’ve been if I had read 7 more book about this one person. It’s a good idea and certainly an interesting case! Honestly, my negative review is probably just a case of „not my jam“. If you‘re into thrillers, even if you haven’t read the rest of this series, maybe give it a go!
