Beschreibung

Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil’s supply of human teeth grows dangerously low.

And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real, she’s prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands", she speaks many languages - not all of them human - and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she’s about to find out.

When beautiful, haunted Akiva fixes fiery eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

Daughter of Smoke and Bone 💨🦴

I really liked Laini Taylor's writing style although it was quite a struggle for me in the first half of the book but progressively got easier to follow. Karou's story is such a magnificent and unique journey to read and I really liked her as a character. But now I am left with a cliffhanger and don't have the sequel at hand... Awww! 4.5 stars

I loved the first 150ish pages but as soon as that insta love hit I was out. I was slightly invested moving forward, then came the flashback parts. Who allowed that to be in the final version of the book? That was a literal SNOOZE fest, I honestly just skimmed the last 70 pages as I was so done with the book at that point.

This was the first book I read this year, and I loved it so much. The world Laini Taylor wrote is so beautiful and I love that a big part of the story is set in Prague. I had a little trouble understanding the world and magic system in the first half of the book, but as I got further into it things were starting to unfold and make sense. This book felt as if there was a dark cloud hanging over it in every good way, the vibes were immaculate! Laini Taylor's writing is so whimsical and athmospheric and that just added so much to the storyline. I loved Karou as a main character, because who doesn't love a badass female MC??? She was so incredibly funny and relatable, and as someone who loves reading character driven books this was great. Our love interest Akiva was hot, no literally, his wings were on fire. Beautiful angel Akiva and Karou have a very rich backstory we learn a little about in this book, but I definitely think there's going to be more about their story in the second book. I cannot wait to get to the rest of this trilogy and see where the plot goes. I also saw that especially the 3rd book in this series is THICK so that makes it even better. :)

Tabbed - 14 times I really enjoyed this book, and there as normal were many causes of that. First off the writing, one of the first things I picked up on was the writing and in a good way. It was really lyrical and enjoyable to read. It flowed nicely and with the story and time periods jumping around a bit it did it in a way that worked and didn't confuse us. I can't find the passage I first picked up on but I remember really loving it. Then we had the characters, I didn't love the characters in the same way I did the writing but I still really liked them. Karou was a great main character and her commentary was really interesting to read, and she picked up on stuff in a similar way I did. I also really like Avika as a character but I can't really say anything about him without spoiling the book. I had some predictions and worries about what was going to happen but I never expected that ending, though I should have and there were a couple other plot twists again that I didn't expect, though those ones I can understand why. Also that ending wasn't very fair on us, I don't know if I currently have time to read the next book but I now really need to. Overall a great book, that I'm really glad I read, highly recommend and look forward to the sequel.

The love story was a bit too much "meant to be", so the last 100 pages weren't my cup of tea, but I loved the rest !
