Autorenbeschreibung

It was absolutely worth reading it for learning about that time period, but being a real diary: not much actually interesting happens. I really enjoyed when Sei Shonangon described life at court and things that she experienced and did, but half of the book was just her listing things or complaining. It makes sense considering the nature of this text it just wasn't that fun. The strongest thing about it is showing that people haven't changed that much over all this time, as well as the historical aspects like the importance of poetry back then. However, I don't think the author is as clever or special as I was led to believe before reading. I actually found her not to be that likable, but 1000 years and half the world seperate her and me, so of course we couldn't have the same values, I never expected that.
