Now a fugitive, pursued through the genetic underworld by his former colleagues and the police, Durand is determined to restore his original DNA by locating the source of the mysterious—and highly valuable—change agent. But Durand hasn’t anticipated just how difficult locating his enemy will be. With the technology to genetically edit the living, Wyckes and his Huli jing could be anyone and everyone—and they have plans to undermine identity itself.

Insgesamt ein interessantes Buch - es ist aus meiner Sicht eine gigantische Geschichte, die unfassbar detailliert ausgeschrieben wurde. Die Charaktere haben mir gefallen, da sie eine richtige Tiefe besitzen und somit auch Empathie entstehen konnte. Dennoch war das Setting mir doch etwas too much. Was mir nicht so gefallen hat, waren die etwas komplizierten Namen, da kam ich doch manchmal etwas raus. Trotzdem bleibt abzuwarten, ob so ein Thriller auch mal Realität werden kann - ich hoffe nicht, in diesem Ausmaß! Ich gebe eine eingeschränkte Leseempfehlung - der Klappentext und Futuristik sollte einen doch schon ansprechen.
Kenneth Durand arbeitet bei Interpol in der Abteilung für Genkriminalität. Eine skrupellose Verbrecherbande, die Huli jing, steigt durch das Gen-Editing immer höher auf. Warum nicht sein Baby für die Zukunft rüsten? Es soll besonders schlau sein oder doch lieber ein Sportler, robustere Knochen, längeres Leben? Du kannst dir alles wünschen so lange du das nötige Kleingeld hast. ⠀⠀ Durand gerät den Huli jing ins Visier und sie verändern seine DNA. Ab sofort steht er auf der Fandungsliste von Interpol. Flucht ist die einzige Option. Denn wie soll Kenneth beweisen, dass er noch er selbst ist, wenn nicht mal seine DNA die seine ist. ⠀⠀ Suarez schafft es einen spannenden, Sci-Fi Thriller zu schreiben. Er hat zwar hier und da ein paar Längen, die mich aber nicht die Bohne gestört haben, da ich das Thema Genmanipulation echt spannt fand. Dieser Thriller war für mich mal wieder was völlig neues. ⠀⠀ Nur die Geschichte des Protagonisten "Otto" fand ich etwas seltsam. Hab sie wohl nicht ganz verstanden. Leider war der Schluss sehr vorhersehbar und kitschig. Nichts desto trotz, war es ein erschreckender Zukunftsthriller der mich mitreißen konnte.
I love the many realistically seeming science fiction idea, that are coherently and skilfully described. I especially liked the beginning, the very end was also good, but I found the middle stretching too long in more or less meaningless travels. I'm not sure I liked the characters much, found them a bit flat, but nevertheless this is an interesting sci-fi read especially for the nice worldbuilding.
