Ok I really did NOT expect the book to be the way it is. Kinda blaming myself for starting yet another book from a series w/o having read the previous ones, but this time I’m not too fond to read the other books. The back of the book promised a pretty disturbing thriller. The whole demon possession parts in between kinda bothered me as I did not expect the book to take this route (for me satanic rituals don’t necessarily mean demon possession). I personally found most of the characters to be unlikable -Lily was one of the few exceptions and I would’ve wanted to read more of her journey. Really had to put the book down for a bit when I read almost half of it. But every time I got close to putting it down, it started to get a bit more interesting, by throwing in another interesting and well written death. Personally I’m also not a fan of the “secret society has control over everything” plot. And some dialogues were cringeworthy and annoying. Overall I’d say it’s not an awful book, just not my cup of tea, as it had a lot of my dislikes as its main theme. Looking back on it, not having read the first books, might’ve been a mistake. I was just hoping for the book to work on its own, as the short description on the back really caught my attention. The thriller aspect -as in the deaths and the plot twist at the end- were great! I loved the moment where it all kinda clicked for me! The rest not so much. I also just found out the English title for it is “The Mephisto Club“. If the German title was a bit closer to that and wasn’t basically “Blood Marks“, I think I would’ve been able to tell earlier what direction this book would take.
