My advice: don't read this book unless you have read the Kate Daniels Series. I wish someone would've told me this before i read the book - bc i literally understood none of the plot. I found Aurelia/Julie quite annoying, very much a Mary Sue, and couldn't build a connection with her character. She played this weird protector and savior role that i found simply too much. Is there any child in need that she won't rescue?? Probably not. Constantly threatening to kill people for minor things - and sometimes going through with it - is perfectly fine for her tho. There were SO many names and backstories and summaries and family connections from the Kate Daniels Series that i couldn't keep track of them. They were just thrown at the reader and while Aurelia/Julie tried to explain them they got even more complicated. Also i didn't get the whole 'I'm a whole new person' thing because literally everybody recognized Aurelia/Julie for who she is. Or was? I really don't know. Also also: there was NOTHING happening for the entire book. Nothing. Aurelia/Julie just went around Atlanta, getting into the occasional fight, trying to be mysterious and badass and moaning about how little time she had. Of course, girl, all you do is saving street kids, drink tea, talk with old friends about the good old times and creeping around the house of a friend of your mom to watch him f*ck another friend of your mom! The last 20 pages were the only relevant for the whole book and even Julie herself tells us at the end that everything is as it was at the beginning of the book. Nothing changed, no character growth, no new friend-/relationships, no defeating the bad guy, no cliff hanger. What did I read this book for? If you read the Kate Daniels Series this book is probably a nice way to teleport back into a much loved world, but as a potentially new reader it was just a boring and confusing info dump with no real soul.
