In Beyond the Gender Binary, poet, artist, and LGBTQIA+ rights advocate Alok Vaid-Menon deconstructs, demystifies, and reimagines the gender binary.

Pocket Change Collective is a series of small books with big ideas from today's leading activists and artists. In this installment, Beyond the Gender Binary, Alok Vaid-Menon challenges the world to see gender not in black and white, but in full color. Taking from their own experiences as a gender-nonconforming artist, they show us that gender is a malleable and creative form of expression. The only limit is your imagination.

A comforting, understanding book full of kindness and possibility. I thought I had nothing to gain from this small book; I was wrong. This is a great book to gift your friends and loved ones, maybe even as a resource for people coming out to make a conversation like that easier for the parties involved.

Awesome and compact booklet about non-binary experience mixed with facts and analysis

On only 64 pages Vaid-Menon manages not only to give insight in their non-binary experience but also to analyze and debunk some of the most common anti-trans rhetorics. It’s very easy to follow along and understand, even if you’re new in the realm of gender lit.

I loved this book. The way it was written is beautiful and very heartfelt so one could sympathize with the author's story. It's also a good resource to further understand the stuggles of gender non-confoming people.

.

loved the writing style. very important. quick read. touches a lot of aspects about gender non-conformity and trans*ness. it’s more like a superficial analysis of the topic – like an introduction. i found it very helpful to get an overview of power dynamics in society and interdependences. especially for a person who feels at the beginning of figuring out their own trans*ness. (every non-trans* person should read it as well, though.)
