Beschreibung

Iconic Batman artist Jock delivers a bare-knuckle brawl through the blacked-out streets of Gotham!

All they had to do was get him across town.

It was the sort of mission Batman had run a thousand times. From high above the sweltering summer streets of Gotham, Batman would escort the GCPD as the dangerous metahuman super-villain known as E.M.P. was transferred from a temporary holding cell to his permanent home at Blackgate Prison in Gotham Harbor. E.M.P.’s electrical powers posed a dangerous threat, but the situation was well in hand.

Until it wasn’t.

Now every light in Gotham is out, the police have been knocked into disarray, and a broken, bleeding Batman must fight his way to Blackgate, block by block, dragging E.M.P. behind him. But it’s not just the gangs who want to make life difficult for him. The dark corners of Gotham contain many surprises…and E.M.P. has many more shocks to deliver before the night is through!

One of the most iconic Batman artists of the 21st century, the incomparable Jock (THE BATMAN WHO LAUGHS, BATMAN: THE BLACK MIRROR), has focused all his storytelling powers on the tale of one very, very dark night in Gotham City. It’s always darkest before the dawn—if it ever comes…

Blackout story: Jock's Black Label title "Batman: One Dark Knight" focuses the whole story on one particular night in Gotham. Vasquez, the head of prison bureau is convinced the city needs more security and peace far away from crime. Therefore she tries to create super cells to keep special inmates incarcerated. The test subject is the meta human E.M.P who feeds of electricity. However his high tech prison cell is in Blackgate and the GCPD is tasked to transfer the supernatural criminal there from Arkham Asylum. Batman is watching from above. But soon enough problems arise... rating: "Batman: One Dark Knight" really is something different yet something familiar. The story focuses on just this one night which could be a good opportunity for the author to detailize it as far as possible. Batman and Alfed are acting out their main roles - Dark Knight and assistant watching from the Bat Cave. So any new character traits for them are missing - however that's fine for me. I love them exactly as they are. E.M.P. is an interesting choice for the villain. So far he hasn't really said or done anything besides hunting for energy. We will see how this figure evolves in the next issues. All in all the story is an interesting twist but the idea isn't revultionary. What really convinced me is the art style. It's dark, sharp and kind of dirty. Exactly like you would expect Gotham to be. Many shadows are involved trasnfering the feeling of secrecy and mystery. I particulary liked the wide angle shots of Gotham and the visuals of the Batplane flying. conclusion: New twist to existing assets - moody art style. Looking forward to the next issues. 4/5
