Große Fantasy-Empfehlung 🐉💚
Jeder, der gern Fantasy-Abenteuer und/oder Drachen mag, wird mit diesem Buch sehr sicher nichts falsch machen! Ascendant erzählt die Geschichte vom Küchenjungen Holt, der in einem unüberlegten Moment ein Drachenei vor dem Tod rettet und sich weniger später, statt in der Küche, auf einmal in epischen Schlachten und inmitten verhängnisvoller Intrigen wiederfindet. Eine spannende Geschichte sowohl mit Momenten, die einen zum schmunzeln bringen, aber auch emotional werden lassen. Die Charaktere, Menschen sowie Drachen, bringen alle ihre eigene Persönlichkeit mit und wachsen einem schnell ans Herz. Dazu trägt sicher auch bei, dass Holt als Hauptprotagonist keinesfalls der alleinige Held der Geschichte ist, der die Welt mal eben im Alleingang rettet. Ebenfalls sehr spannend umgesetzt im Buch ist der Bund zwischen Drache und seinem Reiter. Der Drache ist klar die Quelle der Kraft und braucht in dem Sinne keinen Reiter um mächtig zu sein, dafür fokussiert sich der Bund hier viel mehr auf die tatsächliche Verbindung von Drache und Reiter - ohne zu sehr ins Detail gehen zu wollen, denn es macht unglaublich Spaß dies im Verlauf des Buches gemeinsam mit Holt zu entdecken. :)
Story was good, but for some reason this took me a while.
A very very long while. And I am not sure why. Is it just me? Was it the book? So, this is a story about a boy born to be a cook. As his father, and his father's father. But he wanted to be a dragon rider. One day, he saved an that is a dragon reject before it was cast off to perish. He wanted to just set it free in the wilds. But that is not what happens. They both end up in a complicated situation. The story focuses on friendship and family, and overcoming obstacles. So the plot is good. But I really just got into the book in the last parts. Not sure if I should read book 2...
This book surprised me in the best way. The plot was a great combination of suspense, quiet moments and action. The character writing is fantastic, I cared deeply for the characters. Some managed to intrigue me from the very first page I got to know them. I also really enjoyed the themes addressed in the book (e.g. the disability rep), but there is so much I can't talk about because I don't want to possibly spoil anything. I wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone who already loves fantasy and dragons in stories and to anyone who wants to dip their toe into fantasy and/or dragon riding stories. I laughed, I hoped, I despaired, I cried. Please give Holt and Ash a chance to steal your heart, as they did with me.
