Ich habe so lange geweint bis ich nicht mehr weinen konnte. Es ist wirklich sehr schön geschrieben und sollte meiner Meinung nach wirklich Pflichtlektüre an der Oberstufe werden! Ich hab das schon allen meinen Freunden empfohlen weil ich es so gut finde.

Everyone needs to read this! It’s eyeopening. “No one cares about a bunch of Syrian refugees stranded in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. We aren’t the first or the last people to do this. So what if a hundred or so meet their deaths? It’ll make a nice headline to spur a small protest or donation campaign before we’re forgotten again like foam on the sea. No one will remember our names. No one will know our story.“
So.... this book broke my heart. Let me tell you - I do work with Syrian refugees in Germany every day and I'm listening to their stories and I know what they go through, none of it is news to me. But Zoulfa Katouh managed to capture it all in such a hard-hitting but very hopeful way that it really destroyed me and made me think so much. The Studio Ghibli references, the hopes and dreams of the characters, the love for their family members, Salamas urge to help people, the grief and the bravery - there was even plot twists! I can't. But what impressed me most and what I will always remember is the love for Syria that Syrians always carry in their hearts, no matter where they live. Along the lines of the dedication of this book - "And to all the Syrians who loved, lost, lived and died for Syria, we will come back home one day" (which in itself makes me cry btw) - one day, I want to visit this beautiful country and experience this love myself.
Wichtige Geschichte über Syrien vor allem in der heutigen Zeit.
Ein wichtiges Buch besonders in der heutigen Zeit und Flüchtlingspolitik. Es ist sehr bewegend, wahre - und schreckliche - Ergebnisse in einer berührenden Geschichte erzählt zu bekommen, als nur nackte Zahlen und Fakten in einem Sachbuch. Ein guter Einblick in die Lebensrealität von Menschen, die in einem Krieg/einer Revolution leben, von denen wir hier in Deutschland kaum etwas mitbekommen. Gleichzeitig zeigt es aber auch Liebe, Hoffnung, Familie und Zusammenhalt. Ich habe sehr mitgelitten und viel geweint.

a book that started slow and then swept me off my feet. it’s such a moving story and touched my heart in a way i am grateful for. as long as the lemon trees grow, i will have hope too.

Dieses Buch muss man gelesen haben. Der Schreibstil der Autorin ist so wunderschön, das Buch ist nur so dahingeglitten. Ich habe geweint und gelacht und mich in die Charaktere verliebt. Ich kann es nicht in Worte fassen, dieses Buch hat mich sprachlos zurückgelassen. Und ich habe jede Sekunde geliebt. Auch wenn es unfassbar traurig ist. Ich habe in meinem Leben noch nie so viel in einem Buch markiert. Mittlerweile ist es mehr Sticky Notes als Buch - aber iykyk Ich möchte das Buch jedem ins Gesicht klatschen und schreien: LIES ES.
