Beschreibung

A high school jock and nerd fall in love senior year, only to part after an amazing summer of discovery to attend their respective colleges. They keep in touch at first, but then slowly drift apart.
Flash forward twenty years.
Travis and Craig both have great lives, careers, and loves. But something is missing .... Travis is the first to figure it out. He's still in love with Craig, and come what may, he's going after the boy who captured his heart, even if it means forsaking his job, making a fool of himself, and entering the great unknown. Told in narrative, letters, checklists, and more, this is the must-read novel for anyone who's wondered what ever happened to that first great love.

When I first started Almost Like Being in Love in 2012 it simply didn't click with me and I put it aside after almost 100 pages. I thought I'd never pick it up again because the characters didn't appeal to me. Then a few days ago I wanted to give another chance to one of the books on hold and Almost Like Being in Love jumped into my line of sight. I thought "Well, why not? Maybe I just wasn't in the right mood before." and whether or not I was in the right mood to read it or not I'm glad I gave the book another chance. Almost Like Being in Love is a very charming and funny novel about trying to reconnect with your first love after a string of failures makes you re-evaluate your love life. In this case Travis Puckett realizes he's still in love with his high school sweetheart Craig who every one of his boyfriends had to measure up to with none succeeding. We follow his journey of trying to find Craig to see if they could reconnect and whether Craig still loves him too. At the same time we learn about Craig and his boyfriend of twelve years and see how great they are together (apart from some issues). Which results in torn feelings about whether you wanting to see Travis succeed or fail in his endeavour. Following Travis and Craig was fun (even though some of Travis' actions too often toed the line of sanity and credibility for me)and I was rooting for them all the way (when I wasn't rooting for Clayton). There is some stereotyping in the book that I didn't feel very comfortable with but thankfully it was mostly a few bits near the end. Peppered with many fun and likable secondary characters Almost Like Being in Love was a quick and fun read and I look forward to reading some of the author's other works.

This book was funny and so cute -> more than cute. The way it was written, the characters ... awesome!!! And I was so anxious about the possible ending because I wanted a happy-end for Craig, Travis AND Clayton SO BADLY ... and I was sure I couldn't get that. But the last flash forward solved all these issues and everything felt just right. I love this book and I want to see a movie about it!
