I really liked the book! The characters were cute and the pace was almost perfect (a biit too slow). Furthermore, I learned a lot about the vietnamese culture and traditions!! The ending was a bit too fast for my taste, but overall a really nice and cute book!
Ganz großer Pluspunkt: die vietnamesische Geschichte bzw. die Repräsentation von vietnamesischen Refugees in Amerika. Es werden zwischendrin, v.a. in den Dialogen vietnamesische Wörter bzw. Sätze verwendet, was Charme hat, aber auch dafür sorgt, dass man nicht alle kleinen Details im Gespräch versteht (nur manchmal wird das Vietnamesische übersetzt). Die Liebesgeschichte nimmt meiner Meinung nach nur einen kleinen Teil des Buches ein. Der Fokus liegt doch eher in den Traumas innerhalb der Familie und der Eltern. Rein von der Geschichte fande ich es nicht schlecht. Der Schreibstil war glaub ich nicht ganz ideal bzw. die beiden Hauptcharaktere waren etwas flach und charakterlos, weswegen ich nie wirklich den Drang hatte weiterzulesen, wenn ich das Buch mal zu Seite gelegt habe. Das ist auch der Grund, wieso ich so lange zum Lesen gebraucht habe..
In short: I don’t really have anything to add or complain about? At first I thought damn 400 pages this is gonna be rough, since I’m not really a romance book enjoyer. Well thank god the romance is literally the b storyline here! This book was cute, fun, unserious, and a nice quick read actually. Yes at times it is cheesy but it is teenagers in „puppy love“, it can be and should be. I love the way the rivalry was portrayed, yes at times it was just ?????? But that is exactly how these long ass family feuds are.

In short: I don’t really have anything to add or complain about? At first I thought damn 400 pages this is gonna be rough, since I’m not really a romance book enjoyer. Well thank god the romance is literally the b storyline here! This book was cute, fun, unserious, and a nice quick read actually. Yes at times it is cheesy but it is teenagers in „puppy love“, it can be and should be. I love the way the rivalry was portrayed, yes at times it was just ?????? But that is exactly how these long ass family feuds are.
Eine rundum sympathische Geschichte mit interessanten Einblicken in eine andere Bevölkerungsgruppe. Und doch erinnern sie mich an die Generation meiner Großeltern.
Let me just say.. the book could have been great if the pacing was better? Otherwise, a cute ya story, good moments and everything else. In length review to come.
