Half Lies: A Half Bad story
von Sally Green
I'm finding it very difficult to rate this short story...
First of all, all fans of the Half Bad trilogy will certainly enjoy this short story as well. It was published in 2014, between book 1 (Half Bad) and book 2 (Half Wild), and we follow Gabriel's little sister Michele in the form of diary entries. This allows us not only to get to know her, but also to learn more about Gabriel's backstory about 2 years before he meets Nathan. A nice little bonus for everyone who can't get enough of the world created by Sally Green. I would have actually been happy if the book had been a little longer. And that brings us to my major point of criticism. Normally, when reviewing books, I only rate the content, not the product itself. However, I have to make an exception here. The short story Half Lies is advertised in almost every shop with ~124 pages. So I was all the more surprised when the book suddenly ended on page 62. The entire rest consists of advertisements and reading samples of other books by the author. In addition, the story itself doesn't start until page 10. Before that, there is a small table of contents and the author's foreword. So, from the supposedly 124 pages, we are effectively down to 52. The eBook is not expensive (2.99$/2.42€ at the time of this review), so it's not about the price. However, I find that the indication of 124 pages borders on consumer deception. As I said, there is nothing wrong with the little story itself, but everyone has to decide for themselves whether the 52 pages of additional material are worth buying...
