Everything came full circle. The first book introduced us to the world. It was a light hearted story about a girl becoming a passion before the story twists into a more complicated plot of restoring a queen to her rightful throne. The second book is about what must be achieved in order for the queen to secure her position. The bonds between the characters became much stronger and the story was much more emotional. We get to finally experience the Maevan courts and hear stories of how the lords and lady's have fared during the war and after. This book just feels more severe than the first. The characters are put in more demanding situations both emotionally and physically. In both books I loved the portrayal of the relationship between men and women in Maevana, the mutual respect and acceptance of the matriarchy.
