Achille Mbembe ist Direktor der Stiftung Innovation for Democracy, Professor für Geschichte und Politikwissenschaft sowie Forscher am Wits Institute for Social and Economic Research (WISER) an der University of Witwatersrand (Johannesburg). Für seine Arbeit wurde er u. a. mit dem Ernst-Bloch-Preis 2018 und dem Holberg-Preis 2024 ausgezeichnet.
